I'm sure a lot of you guys can help me out with this one. Heading out to a reservoir tonight to fish for walleye. We will probably catch some bass as a by product but I won't be complaining! It will be the first time I've fished for them and I was wondering what type of lures work best?

From the reading I've done online I think I have a pretty good idea of where to find them on the lake I just haven't found much information about lures. Heading out in about an hour.

I'v always had luck with crank baits, jerkbait/slashbaits like Xraps, husky jerks, and smithwick rouges. Are you on a boat or shore bound?

100% of the walleyes I have caught over the years have been "accidental", so take this fwiw. But the #1 producer has been lipless crank baits, #2 has been suspending jerkbaits, #3 has been small Gulp baits on a dropshot.

on a boat you could always drift a bottom bouncer rig with a gulp leech or worm harness. I'm also like ww2farmer most mine come by accident and in summer months a chrome lip less crank seems to be a toothy critter magnet both walleye and pike.

A 3" Gulp minnow on a 1/8oz jighead is by far my favorite artificial for walleye this time of year. In the spring they love hard jerkbaits, longer and more slender baits seem to work better like a rogue, RCX, vision 110, or slender pointer have been my better baits but I did have one spring I wore the paint off a LC 78 pointer in Nishiki (clown) color. Rattle traps and shad rap or flicker shads are very good baits for them at times or baits like the original Rapala or countdown minnow are good too. Swimbaits and grubs are both very effective at times also. It's not a dependable thing but some of the biggest walleye I've caught have been flipping weedless finesse jigs into and around shallow wood or rocks. I catch a lot of walleye fishing for bass with squarebills and spinnerbaits at times also.

I've caught a number of walleye from Hollow Body swimbaits, fishing for Bass. I don't really ever fish for them but manage to nab a few here and there. If I were purposely going for them I'd use a jig and grub on light tackle or Flicker Shad cranks.
