Offset Vs Ewg Hooks

Featured Replies

I do wish manufactures would produce a straight shanked hook with a wider gape, yet not have an increased shank length and was not a heavy wire hook like the Gammy/Trokar heavy flippin hooks.

Learned that Gamakatsu has come out with a finesse heavy cover hook.

I started useing the EWG Skip Gap hooks instead of the offset type. I like them much better...

I use both, worm fishing offset, rage Shad ewg. I don't retie have enough rods set up

I bought some Gamakatsu Hybrid Worm hooks today where they claim they get better hook ups than EWG. My issue is that they are really more like an EWG than a straight Offset Work hook.

looks like I need to look at my other hooks to see if some brands are the same configuration as I am sure they will be less that $2.50 a hook.

@D Stranahan those hooks stick em for me.  I can't remember one coming unbuttoned since I switched to using them for big worms.  You should give them a try and see if that's the same for you.

Good hook that didn’t exist back in 2012 when this thread started.

Howdy @D Stranahan I haven't tried those hooks yet myself.

I mostly use offset worm hooks. Oddly enough, in Ozark trail hooks. I bought a pack for the boy to use, but turns out they are pretty good hooks. I mostly use Gamakatsu hooks when I don't use those.

I only use EWG hooks on thicker baits like a Gambler Big EZ type swimbait. I use offset or plain straight shank hooks the most. Once I start getting into the 5/0 and bigger sizes I will look at an EWG.

I think it depends on the application. For Flukes and bigger worms, I prefer the round bend offset.

I use the EWG style for fishing most any other soft plastic, punching not included.  Most have lighter wire hooks than the EWGs, too.
