So whats the deal with the color Chartreuse? Why is this color so effective? Ive seen Bluegill with a Chartreuse tail while swimming,but thats only the tip of their tail.

Why are baits that are totally Chartreuse such a killer?

I have had no luck with chartreuse ever i dont but anything fully chartreuse im a match the hatch guy

To a fish living in deep water or stained water the color chartruse is filtered out and it appears as a very bright white which is more visible to those fish living in deeper water. So on a deep crankbait that is chartruse with a blue back the fish sees a very bright white with a blue back. To fish living in deeper water looking up at a chartruse spinnerbait going over top of them they see a brighter white lure so it has more visibility and can call fish up to strike it from a farther distance than just plain white which starts to appear more bluish/greyish or a dull white than plain white at deeper depths. Think of fish living in deep or stained water as living in a black and white world for the most part. Another way to see kind of what a fish sees in chartruse is to take a black and white photo or a photo with no flash in low light of the bait and look how bright the white color it turns is.

Tastes great and is less filling!

Actually, lime or chartreuse seem to attract the bass where I fish.

A chartreuse with blue back Bandit 100 or 200 is a very powerful lure. 

Chartreuse spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and crankbaits.  Those are the baits I've had some solid hits on.  As a matter of fact, looking back over the time I've been fishing the largest bass I've caught on each one of these type of baits were on a chartreuse color each time.  And my largest bass of all so far of any caught has been on a chartreuse crank as well. 

Glad I saw this thread.  Might never have thought of it in this way.  Now I want to try some chartreuse jigs and plastics too.  When it comes to plastics I've never given chartreuse a chance. 

If you think about it most of the chartreuse baits people throw are reaction baits like spinnerbaits or cranks.  Those are fast moving and the bass dont usually get a good look at them.  The chartreuse seems to give off that brightness which bass hone in on.  Thats why chartreuse is productive IMO.

chartreuse senkos are killer on smallies.no fast moving bait with a senko.

Good point with the senko. What were the conditions when you caught those smallies?

I read an article in Bassmaster many many many years ago (like the early 80's), that said purple or grape and chartruse are the colors bass see the easiest.

Bass have two spectral peaks: yellow-green and red-orange. They are weakest in the shorter (blue) end of the spectrum. Behavioral studies have shown bass have the greatest difficulty separating blues.

Never use a chart. Senko, the fish are scared of it. Send any you have to me and I will properly dispose of them, LOL

Wayne, do you use that chart. senko in stained or clear water?

chartreuse is great on spinnerbaits/cranks for me

It is a special color b/c smallmouths attack it...especially when the water is churned up a bit

....or on a dark/cloudy day
