Got some new paint and a new mold I needed to try out. Finally poured a bunch of assorted jig heads the other day and getting around to tying a few up. First is a black/red chatterbait, think this one will be a really good night fishing bait.

Next is a black/purple/blue with a junebug head, really like how that paint looks . Should be a good night fishing/stained water color also.

Last is a finesse jig with my new round head mold. I know the top of the skirt is a little long but I like it to help slow the fall a bit even though it doesn't look "right".

Looks good. And don't worry about that top being a little long. I think you'll like the added action. Don't know if you've ever watched a finesse cut skirt in the water, but cutting the top off not only thins the skirt, but the short part looks just like a crawfish tail kicking.

I use the smaller 1/8oz, 3/16oz, and 1/4oz mold for my finesse jigs and I leave the top cropped a little long for the same reason, it works like a minature parachute. I found something that works really good with finess jigs, thin the skirt out a bit, 15 strands, you won't believe how much better the skirt flairs once it hits bottom, I think it is why I'm getting bit on the finesse jig on every trip, give it a try. The chatterbaits look awesome, does the blade hit the sideds of the head on retrieve? I was wondering as I wanted to try my football jig mold to make one but I still have some original hex type blades so it might be different for me.

I have the heavier round jig mold, I believe that's a 5/16 oz size. It makes it easier to fish in the heavy winds we normally have and to fish it deeper without losing feel of the bait. I'll have to try trimming the skirt on a couple down a little and see how that works.

If the blade hits the head I don't notice it and it doesn't leave any marks. I may try to make a couple with the oblong split rings to see if that changes the vibration any. I took the chatterbaits out a couple trips already and they just crush those things

I believe they are a 3 or 4. They have to be fairly large or they get bent trying to turn them onto the blade.

Thanks for the comments guys. I've caught a couple of my biggest bass of the year on my homemade chatterbaits. Always feels good to get a good one on a bait that you made.
