What Am I Doing Wrong?

Featured Replies

As I mentioned in a post a while back, I am completely new to soft plastics. My question is, I bought some bass pro tournament lizards to use in a local pond, when I Texas rigged them the whole body spins when I retrieve them back to me, that's both weightless and with a bullet weight. Any suggestions? Thanks guys

Slow down

That's just it though, even slow rolling it continues to spin.

Make sure it is straight when you hook it. If it is off kilter at all, it will spin and not have natural movement. It should hang straight down when you dangle it from the line.

Lizards are made to be fished on the bottom. Not slow rolled. It should take more than 1 minuet to retrieve a cast, with pauses of at least 10 seconds(count them) between moving the rod or reeling.

Thanks for the advice as always guys. :-)

I'll echo hooah here and say to make sure the hook is on there straight. It actually makes a big difference and can even distort the action for worms.

Unless you're wacky rigging or nose hooking, then ram rod straight and centered is the only way to put a plastic on the hook. Try not to even have any sway in the plastic between the hook eye and point.

I was wondering if you were using spinning gear? Could be that your line is twisted.
