Weight Pegs

Featured Replies

Im having a hard time finding a weight peg that will keep from sliding through the hole when setting the hook. 1 oz tungsten weight specifically.

I end up having to result to using a tooth pick which Im not to fond of, I worry it could lead to break offs.

what do you use?

Peg X stops. You can find them at TW. Terminal tackle section. They are like bobber stops but work on worm weights etc. BPS also has some but I don't think they have the black ones. They work great at pegging the weights.

Dang, my reply is lost in webland somewhere. What I said was toothpics are a bad choice with tungsten weights as they're a pain to get out of them. What I wanted to know is why do you feel the need to peg a 1oz. sinker? Wouldn't a jig of that size suit your needs, or is the extra sensitivity needed for the depth you're fishing? The only time I feel the need to peg is when fishing weeds and around here, they don't grow much deeper than 18-20ft. Just curious. That's a lot of $ to put out for a sinker, but then again, I'm a poor old fart so everything is expensive 'compared to what it used to cost' :cry4:

He's probably flipping really thick weeds and needs that much weight to punch through them.

Is a bobber stop too small? If so you might try a bobber stop with a small plastic bead between the stop and the sinker.

Been using bobber stops from 6th sense. They've been working great.

Thats exactly what I'm using it for. Fishing heavy pads , texas rigging a craw and punching through heavy cover- mostly lilly pads. Ive tried a few different plastic pegs but they are too small for the 1 oz opening, they'll start off pretty good but when I start setting the hook the bobber stop peg style gets stuck inside the head and loses its effectiveness.

That would take a lot of skirt material to peg a 1 oz weight, Ive tried using the plastic pegs and it takes a couple strands to keep it in place. The idea about using the bead might be the trick, It would also act a rattle too.. Great idea. Thanks.

Quit using pegs and start using parasite weights. Much more natural presentation and comes through clingy weeds much better.

thats the first i time I have seen parasite weights/clips. thats a great idea, I might just have to give those a shot. thanks.

to the OP.

Get some rubber bands and cut them up.

The 6th sense stops work great with the 1oz tungsten weights I use (Strike King), and they have held tight with weights ranging from 1/8 oz all the way up to 1.25 oz, and on braid from 20-50lbs, and fluoro from 12-20 lb.

Bobber stops for me. I just use those same ones that have the little sleeve and thread that you pull tight. I then color them with a sharpie so they are not flourescent..

I have also had some good success using 10lb flouro tied in a blood knot around the main line which works pretty well too.

Bobber stop from Eagle craw works great for me on 65 lbs braid with 1oz tungsten.
