Line Question

Featured Replies

What line would yall use on a M/F spinning reel for shaky heads, drop shots, lighter weight/weightless t-rigs? I have 10lb mono on my reel now just because thats what I started out fishing with. Don't plan on fishing around super heavy weeds or anything but will be in and around some lighter hydrilla, docks and probably some rocks/riprap. I currently have 12 lb Yo Zuri and 15lb Braid... and more 10lb mono that might make sense. Definitely don't mind buying more line but if you think I can get away with what I have now I wouldn't mind that either. Thanks!

My choice has been 8lb invisx fluro, has proven plenty strong enough, not hard to manage, and the characteristics of fluro make it perfect for what you plan to use it for.

Your mono is just fine. Next time you buy new line give the Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 a try.

I think you will like it, too!

Cool. Thanks guys! I'll look for either some lighter flouro or Yo Zuri next time I buy some more line.

I've got 6# Sufix Elite on my 6' M spinning outfit. For 6# mono, I've found it to be pretty strong and with some KVD, it's smooth as butter. I've not tried a whole lot of lines, but I'm satisfied with this one so far. It's cheap too.

The techniques you mention are the only ones where I'm concerned about line visibility, especially in clear water. If the water you fish most often is stained, that 10lb. should be just fine. If it's clearer, you might want to drop down a notch or two. Lighter (thinner) line won't hinder your lure's action as much and most guys will tell you they get more bites because of that. You be the judge.

I have my 10 lb Big Game on my spinning rig and have never had any problems.

On my dropshot/senko rod i use 15lb power pro super slick with 6lb yozuri hybrid for my leader, works great.

I have a 7' M/F spinning combo. I run 15# braid with a 12# fluoro leader. This is my do it all spinning reel. The braid is a godsend over mono for me.
