hey everyone ive been struggling lately to catch quality fish, or for that matter any fish. my main pond is about 10 ft deep at max and about 7 ft avg. the weather here has been really cold (50's for the high and 30's for the low) the lake is fairly clear and the main forage base is bluegill. i have seen a lot of small bass up shallow but i cant figure out what to throw at em. what would you guys do? thanks!

Jig. Either a grn pumpkin or brown weed less jig with a craw trailer of some sort. I prefer paca chunk or rage chunk in green pumpkin. Or you can do the same jig and trailer combo in black/ blue. Flip or pitch to then shallow and hang on

Which bait families have you tried on them thus far? And are there any big bass in there, or just the small size you mention?

If larger bass are there, I'd suggest slow rolling a 5.5" paddle-tail style, soft plastic swimbait (i.e.: SK Shadalicious), on a weight hook. That'll get their juices flowing!

Would you happen to know the water temps and did the lake turnover?

so far ive tried frogs, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs, wacky rigs, finesse worms, buzzbaits, tubes, carolina rig, and even a hard swimbait. what do you mean by "turnover"? and no i dont know the water temps right now, guessing its around the 40's

and ive caught some nice ones in there, about 5 bass around 4-5 lbs this year

I've heard alot of people say shakey heads are working well right now..I've been texas rigging and using jigs too and its been slow..btw my conditions are about the same as your describing..

When the surface temp becomes less than the temp on the bottom the water will literally turnover. Water on top will sink water and on the bottom will rise also bringing debris and mud up off the bottom. The water on the bottom is generally less oxygenated and now dirty causing the fish to go into a slump until things settle back down a little.

i fish northern lakes just like you with the main forage being perch and bluegill, while we are not as cold as you our highs are averaging upper 50's to low 60's and upper 40's at night. let me tell you the bite is tough for me right now! seems a lot of the weeds are dying now and floating up to the surface. the only few fish i managed were on a 10" black ol' monster worm and one nice 3.5lber on a super spook jr. my guess is the water temps here are low 60's. next time out i am bringing a thermometer to check the temp of the water. good luck out there

try a inline spinner or a weightless senko works for me

This may sound weird but there is a pond down the street from me and when the water temp is low I've had my best luck with a yellow marabou crappie jig..This is a shallow dingy pond..Ive caught some big ones with it.

lots of people try smaller lures and baits in colder water; grubs on jigheads, that type of thing; i have luck here in the cold on plastic worms SLOW on the bottom; weedless rigging will help here
