If you could only use 5 brands of lipless crankbaits....

Featured Replies

I think 5 is enought to get by but to be honest most will own another odd bait or two.

For me it would be..

Lucky Craft-probably the most diverse lineup hard to beat overall

Strike King-The redeye shimmies when it sinks thats the main seller but the old diamond shad also is good, and its goes a little deeper than normal which is nice

Sebile-the baits are just so unique I cant leave them out

Xcalibur-kinda new but they make great baits, kind of a compromise in price between the cheaper stuff and luck craft

Bill Lewis-Still a great bait but overlooked these days big time, Remember Duckett won in 07 with one (and he flipped some also)

Other notables just missing the cut for me are Yozuri and cotton cordell for their big 3/4oz bait I love

Never been a big fan of Rapala or Berkley for this type of bait

I have use the H2O some and i love them.  the finish is great has great hooks and swims great.  the rattles are kinds subtle too which i like @ times.

I like it that you won't limit me to one, so here is my 5

Strike King Red Eye Shad

Spro Aruka Shad

Sebile Flatt Shad

Yozuri Rattlin' Vibe

Jackall TN series

.....

Currently, I'm only carrying 4 different lipless crank models.

Bill Lewis RatLTrap

Cotton Cordell Super Spot

Strike King Diamond Shad

Strike King Red Eye Shad.

I am looking to add a few of the XCaliburs to the mix as well.

I've mentioned before, I think its necessary to not limit yourself to just 1 or 2 brands/models. Being able to carry a couple of each in 3 or 4 colors and sizes can be a big help in refining exactly what the bass wants is key. Each model will have their own unique sound, look and vibration. Being off slightly could be the difference in a great day, so-so day or a horrible day (IMHO).

Rapala

Berkley

The one I've done best on so far: Rapala rattlin rap(firecraw)

a couple I've got and not done much on: X-calibur one-knocker, Lucky craft lv-500, LC lvr d-7.

Some I recently bought I'm going to try this year:

Sebile Flatt shad 66sk and 77su, strike king redeye, Excailbur xr-50's, Viper design risebacker, Megabass silent aka tora.

A few I'm looking at buying: Evergreen buzzer beater silent, Jackall tn-60 silent, Megabass vibration-x silent smatra. ;D

Although I haven't tried them yet I want to try a rattle-less one like the Flatt Shad at mid-day when they can clearly see it way off or perhaps in ultra-clear water.

The lipless that have caught me fish:

Bill Lewis' Rat-L-Trap

XCalibur Xr50, Xk75

Yozuri Rattln' Vibe 5/8oz

I feel like the Strike King Red Eye and XCalibur Xr series are essentially identical.  The one lipless that I think is the best producer is the Xk series from XCalibur, the single (and huge) tungsten rattle makes a completely different sound and when no other crank would work, I killed with that a few evenings.

Don't need 5 brands. All I need is redeye shads. :) If I choose others It would be excaliburs. After using these 2 I pretty much retired my myriad of Bill Lewis traps. They don't even compare IMO.

I still haven't tried the Spro aruku though. :-/
