I'm looking for a floating finesse worm, or atleast something that will keep the tail up off the bottom. I have about 6 different colors in worms that sink, and I'd like to have another kind that will float. I wasn't able to find an answer through searching though, so I figure I should post the question since I plan to run to BPS tomorrow possibly.

My only thing is, is that I don't keep them in the bags. I like to have them in boxes. I have a multitude of Plano boxes that I can switch in and out of my tackle box as I see fit for the trip I'm taking. It just makes things easier for me instead of rustling through bags of bait. I was planning on some Strike King worms, but someone mentioned he had problems with them wanting to melt or deform when keeping them outside the bag? Can't recall, I wasn't able to find it again.

Any help will be appreciated guys.

I love Roboworms!

At BPS I would go with the Roboworms.  They make some of the best floating worms out there.  *.com has a good floater as well but not as many colors to chose from.

The Strike King Finnesse Worms are a favorite of KVD's when fishing a shakey-head because they float and stand up when on the bottom.  They're also made of the super stretch plastic that makes them hold up for a LONG time.  As for your problems with the SK worms, they will react with other plastics so they must be stored separately.

yeah...the strike kings are great! you just have to keep them seperate from other plastics. you canput them in boxes though... you just have to dedicate that box to "3x plastics ONLY". then theyll be fine.

dont foget if your shaky head fishing them... heat the spring or stud that holds the worm with a lighter to get it to stick into the 3x material.

good news is youll only have to do that maybe 2 times the whole day. they last forever.

edit-  the zooms work awesome too and typically are cheaper and easier to deal with. you go through alot of them though a day... so it kinda evens out.

Don't let that stop you using them though.  I go through about 10 lbs. of the things, LOL.  Great worm.

The highest floating worm I've ever encountered has been discontinued a couple years ago.

It was the "Strike King Super Floating Worm" (still have a few bags left).

Today, the three plastic worms mentioned below are the most buoyant to my knowledge:

Strike King 3x Finesse Worm

You can catch bass all day long on the same worm.

Rerig it 50 times and you won't find one hook hole!

Roboworm Zipper

A tremendous worm!

I stopped using it though, because the zipper slices leave too little core plastic for the hook.

Gambler Big Stick

Despite its 7.0" length, I use this worm most often for finessing.

The tubular body is highly buoyant, and the tentacles are a real asset when deadsticking.

I have had the best luck like others above, Strike King and roboworms.

As a matter of fact the Strike King worms have outfished everything else in my tackle box over the past 3-4 years and I am still using the same 10 pack. It is getting low so I ordered another pack of the same with my BPS "lure" order.

As for the Trick Worms, I've found that I've done better t-rigging those in the past couple of years than anything with a curl-tail, tentacles, wings, or whatever.  Guess that's why Larry Nixon says the straight tail is his favorite worm.

Another vote for SK Finesse Worms

A true floating non-ElaZtech 7" straight worm is the one that Walmart sells in the kits (Renegade). The color choices are limited, but they do float.

can anyone comment on the berkley shakey worm? they have them in a 5" and 7" size iirc.

ive seen them on the shelves and they are supposed to float , but i havnt seen any first hand experiences...

yes the Berkley shaky worm does float i tested it just the other day with a jig head and a like 2 gal. bowl of water

I did end up with the SK worms, in PBNJ, Dirt, Green Pumpkin Red, and Coppertreuse! haha, Midnighthrasher must be telepathic, I didn't read his reply before I went.

V & M baits have some great floating worms, craws, creatures etc.

They are made with pork fat cooked in and anise Scent.

I also do "water" tests in a mop bucket in the winter.  The Berkley shakey worms float and look good to me on a shaky or even drop shot.  Gonna be using them more this year, so I'll report.

Also, picked up some great looking shaky worms from Charmer Baits.  Really love the way they look, but haven't used them yet.
