Anyone use this stuff? I went trout fishing today and got skunked. There were like 3 or 4 other guys that showed up throughout the day and all of them caught their limit in about 30-45 minutes. Talked to a couple of them and they were all using Berkley Powerbait. What is this stuff exactly? It looks like some kind of gel. How do you use it? Id rather use lures cuz I feel like they require more technique/skill but if this stuff is catching trout like that, Im willing to give it a shot.

Get some Gulp floating eggs, I like pink and white and usually use one of each on a small egg hook. Rig it on a light slip sinker rig or with a single small split shot. I hate using it for the reason you said but sometime it's the only thing they'll eat it seems.

Power bait is more of a dough bait than a gel. It comes in a bunch of different colors and just like with lures, many times one color will be the hot color for a given day. Like Bluebasser said, set up a slip sinker rig, put a gob of power bait on the hook, throw it out and wait. It does float so set your slip sinker according to how far off the bottom you want the bait to float. It's not a good bait to use if you want to C&R because you will gut hook a lot of fish if you're not quick with your hook set. It will definitely catch trout and if you're looking to keep a limit it's an easy way to do it.

As a kid I probably caught more trout on red worms than any thing else.

i use powerbait a lot. i like pink, chartreuse and white.

So if I decide to go the Powerbait route, whats the best size hook? Im sure my 4/0 worm hooks are much too large so Im gonna have to make a trip to the tackle shop.

#6 or #8 bait holder hook, snelled. Use just enough to cover the hook bend. One of the advantages of the Powerbait is that is has some of the same stuff that is in the trout chow they were trained to eat in the hatchery.

Make sure you keep the lid on it tightly, this stuff dries up quickly.
