sleeper baits

For me - in-line spinners. A great multi-species bait but overlooked for bass. Not good for tossing in the salad but since I fish mostly open water, I fish these a lot. While probably not a great "big fish" bait, the 7-12 bass in my avatar was caught on a Roostertail, as was a 20lb catfish I caught last year, so occasionally they work for big, not just for numbers.

I thought it was interesting that Mike Iaconelli mentioned in a Bassmaster magazine article that in-line spinners were a fall-back bait for him when the usual producers weren't working.

Totally agree! 4 inch size, 1/4 oz.jig head and add jig spinner like a beetle spin and have yourself a good time. This year this has also been our hottest crappie bait using the 2 or 3 inch with a straight jighead 1/16-1/8 oz or jig and spinner combo, and on the back of a roadrunner. I also use the 4 inch ones extensively on the back of chatterbaits, scroungers, and dropshotting, and splitshot rigs.

Beetle Spin, Tiny Torpedo, & Inline Spinners for me.

But probably my biggest sleeper bait is a good old fashioned Dardevle Spoon. It always seems to catch fish.

I cant believe no one has mentioned JITTERBUG'S!!!! :D

Agreed, the inline spinerbait. Everything from perch to pike and in between!

WHY don't I fish it anymore?????????????

super george

Single tail grub on jig head. If someone had a gun to my head and told me i had one cast to catch a fish to save my life, id throw a grub and jig head. I really only throw them for smallies and white bass in rivers, but i should throw them for largemouths more often.

I throw a road runner rollin runner spinner head w/ a super fluke that I have trimmed about a 1/4 inch off the front. I swim it, yo-yo it, and slow roll it along the bottom. Works especially well with the white ice or smokin shad colors. the light from the spinner reflects off or thru the body of these colored flukes. Crappies seem to love this bait as well.
