Looking for some reviews/shootouts between the 2 brands from non-fanboys lol. If anyone has any links please post. Thanks in advance!

TackleTour does reviews, but I can't think of any shootouts like you're asking for.

its user preference. Guys who fish shimano love them, and guys who fish Abus love them. Just depends what you want to spend and what feels better on your selected rod. Or you can do what i did, i bought a Curado and a Revo S. Then make your own conclusion. Whatever one you dont like, you can sell.

after fishing a few abu's i never cared for them. after fishing a few shimano's, i never cared for them (besides my cardiff 400). ive moved on to lew's to test their product, and so far so good.

Abus similiar reels have twice as many bearings and bells and whistles. Would be interesting to see how they compete. Also guys who do shootouts usually go way more in detail then the average angler.

As far as I'm concerned only the fish matters, I've caught great ones with all brands.

Bearing numbers dont do much, its that they are placed where they count. Cent brakes, and a solid foundation is all you need.

Unless you are a member of a different posse, vs. threads are usually all bias.

Being a the Daiwa Guy that I am, I will say I prefer the Curado E to the Revo S and SX, but i'll take an STX over an E anyday. (Performance wise, not reflecting price tag,)

@ Bassclary - I will have a zillion by summer! That reel feels like a tank. Love it.

In general I have nothing against any reel brand except I think Okuma is complete s#!t. Wasn't trying to start a flame war either just want to see professional comparisons between these 2 brands.

Okumas customer service is bar none. I can't say that about any other brand.

Flip a coin. I have both and I have no issues with either brand. You can't go wrong. I don't have any of the newer Revos, my revos are all at least a couple years old, and my Curados and Citicas are E series. I'll replace them with newer stuff when they wear out, that could take awhile, and I fish all the time.

Only "unbiased" shootouts I've ever seen are for flyfishing rods. Not gonna happen with Shimano/Abu on a bass forum. I've purchased and been pleased with Abu's mid-level rods/reels but look to Shimano for my higher end reels due to what I perceive is a better bang for my buck.

Don't overlook the Pfleugers, especially the Patriarchs. It's an amazing reel for the price. I had a friend lend me a couple of Revos to try out. I tried them and sent them back to him.

Thats wierd, a Patriarch and Revo are a very similar reel, almost identical i believe. Im no expert, but from my understanding everything is the same except for finish.

Tackletour did a cranking reel shootout I believe: The Revo Winch vs the Curado E5 (vs a Daiwa vs a Quantum)...

I too have experience with both....Revo S, SX, SC, and Winch and Shimano Citica 200E7 as well as Curado E5 and E7....I prefer the shimano reels BUT I had absolutely no problems with any of the Revos.

Makes sense, they are both pure fishing brands. Lol guess they would share or use similar designs. Probably made in the same factory, saves the mother company $$ that way, lets just hope their fire extinguishers work.

You are correct! The curado e and Abu winch both were towards the top in the different categories evaluated.

If you are on the fence maybe buy both brands of reel and perform your own evaluation. After you feel like you have identified the better reel you can sell the other. I am doing a similar test but with high end floro lines this spring. However I wont be selling the line(s) I dislike.

Go back through this section as far as you like. I suspect the first 100 pages will have all the information you are

looking for, but there are more! Reel comparisons are a huge part of this forum, specifically in this section. I'm

sure we will have another food fight next week.

As a general response, most of today's brands are very close in initial use at all pricing points. Arguments usually

are about features, components and long-term durability. Having said that, it still boils down to personal experience

with different brands and preference.
