Im getting a Pinnacle fishing rod and I want a square bill fishing rod, what i have to choose from is 6'6 , medium, fast and extra fast tip or there is a 7' moderate tip , medium . what do you guys think? i know a crankbait rod should be a moderate action but which would you guys go with?

Honestly, whatever you feel more comfortable fishing with. If you dont think its going to be strong enough, dont use it. I dont fish many crankbaits, but when I do, I use my 50E that is mounted on a 6'8 Compre MH/F Worm and Jig rod. In fact, I have been using it the past week because the fish have been exploding on these squarebills. I just set the drag appropriatly, and havent lost a fish yet. Faught a 5.5lber the other day.

Ive used both 7ft and 6-6 m&mh. Have had a great year with the square bill on them. Rods are Cabelas XML.

I have a 6'6''mh that I recieved in the giveaway here when they were first released and use it mostly for soft plastics and small jigs. I have fished squarebills on it and it is ok for them but its just a little stiff for them, the smaller crankbaits can be a little tough to throw due to the stiffness and shorter length. I havent used the moderate tapered cranking rods but for a general recommendation I usually choose a 7'+ rod. I would say 7' and if going for a M get a fast action, there is a "squarebill" rod that is 7'MH-M and honestly that would probably be my choice.

I really like a moderate tip for cranking. And for squarebills I like a MH power rod since I am usually throwing these crankbaits around heavier cover. I have a Powell Endurance 695cb that works great.

My squarebill rod is a 7mh moderate action and love it. That saying i throw squarebills around heavy wood and lots of thick grass so the MH comes in handy. If you are fishing more open water the 7m moderate may be ok, but if your around any thick cover I would choose the 6'6" fast action out of the rods you listed. I use to use that same exact set up and maybe lost a few more fish compared to my setup now, but nothing drastic.

I actually prefer a fast taper for square bills and lipless vibe baits - especially in grass and wood cover. It helps me react quicker when the bait contacts cover. By dropping to a medium power, you get plenty of flex when a fish is on to keep it pinned. Just about all other cranking I prefer a moderate taper.
