i was curious to know what you guys think are prime summer lures for bass in the morning, afternoon, and evening.

you are going to have to be a little more specific as to type of lake and cover available. For me i like some sort of topwater in the morning and evening/ night but during the day it all depends on what else is going on with the lake, weather etc....

My ideal summer day is a topwater in the morning. Once the sun is up and the mist burns off the surface, then I move deeper and fish offshore structure/cover with crankbaits or jigs. Then I move back to the morning areas and fish spinnerbaits until closer to dark, then finish off with topwater again. There are so many factors that can, and usually do, change that ideal summer day plan.

Anything can catch a bass in that season.

It's a tough question to answer without knowing what and where you're fishing. The bass in the ponds I'm fishing down here have all locked up due to the weather. I'd give anything for it to be summer and be throwing ANY lure. Summer fishing is really just easier in general. Find the fish and throw something at them, anything. It's easy to learn what works and doesn't.

Morning and evening-buzzbaits, poppers, walking baits, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, shallow running cranks, jigs, worms

Afternoon-shakyheads, jigs, deep cranks, 10" worms, swimbaits, C-rigs

A very simplified break down of what I'd normally throw during certain times of day but there are obviously exceptions to these examples like if there's clouds/wind or if the fish are really aggressively feeding. I've caught fish all day long on a buzzbait when the sun was beating down on the water because they had baitfish pushed up on shallow flats or in shallow timber. Don't get too stuck on what is supposed to work, let the fish tell you what they want.

the lake is a 5000 acre lake with depths ranging from 2 to 80 feet. however i am mostly in the 6 to 10 foot range.  the weather is usually partly cloudy with winds 10-15mph in the afternoon, but calm in the morning.

Same thing I fish all year long. Spooks, lizards, flip pitch bugs and jigs, EZ Swimmers. Got to love S Fla.

I like topwaters in the morning.  Plastics and jigs during the day, and into early evening.  Spinnerbaits and topwaters at night.

In the morning when the water is calm, I usually fish some sort of hard topwater bait. Midday when the sun is up I usually go deeper into the lake/pond and fish some medium-diving cranks. At nighttime, I usually either fish some soft plastics or topwater again.

I really had some good luck on cranks this past summer but when all else does fail.............WACKY!

Like most have said, in summer the whole tackle box is in play. Not knowing where you fish, or what the make up of your lakes cover, structure, and forage base is it would be tuff to give you an answer reguarding your situation. A typical summer day for me, on a shallow lake, with grass, docks, and other shoreline cover as the primary areas I fish, and with bluegills,perch, and crayfish as the main forage would go a little something like this for me.

 

Early AM, if it's calm I would work top water over the submerged grass that grows from the bank out to 10-12 fow, if they are biting it I stay with it till it dies. If I am getting alot of slaps and misses or it's too windy for TW, I will pull a sqaurebill crank through the grass to see if they are willing to play on a moving bait. If they don't want that I break out the weightless soft plastics. Alot of times early in the day they will come up and suspend in the grass, but not really be in the mood to chase. If none of that works, I know it's going to be a long day LOL.

 

By mid morning when the sun finally is hitting most of the water, I slow down and start pitching and flipping jigs, and t-rigged plastics tight to cover, sometimes out in the weeds, some times shallow around the docks. Alot of times it's just my gut, or trial and error telling me what direction to go. Now if it's overcast, with some wind, I'll deep crank the outer edge, or fish bigger jigs faster to cover water looking for active fish. Come evening I go back to the AM routine. Then of coarse there are the days where it's flat calm and they want crankbaits, or it's windy and need to babied into biting a drop shot on isolated cover outside the weeds, and only they know why it's like that on that perticular day.
