Saw this on show 2 of Major League Fishing where he won.

 

All anglers were pitching docks with typical jigs, but he was using a 1.5-ounce River 2 Sea Trash Bomb with a Ish's Phat Frog.

 

Interesting how the bass react to the fast fall but not sure its something I would try.

 

 

He also mentions when the heavier weight hits the bottom it tends to stir the bottom up more which trigger the bass into striking...

Ish will be at the Richmond Fishing Expo this year and I am sure he will discuss this presentation during his seminar.

If not, I will try to remember to ask him about it.

Sometimes big baits will work better than smaller baits.

All depends on the fishing conditions and the size of the bass.

I think in that shallow water the heavy weight doesn't give the bass time to look at the bait o the way down.  They just hear it hit the water and see silt stir up they either hit it or they don't, pure reaction.

 

That being said it looked like Kreit caught all of his fish on a weightless Senko.

I saw that program last night on outdoor channel. Ish said the big weight stirs up more muck and stuff at the bottom. Maybe the fish want the bait sinking faster over an lighter weight.

It also depends on the mood of the fish.

It's some thing I usually have rigged up all summer long, maybe not 1.5 oz's, but I will use a 3/4-1oz when docks in shallow water. They have more use than just punching mats

One of the local tournament studs loves this that technique and has been doing it for a while.

I can vouch for this technique, all of the stuff above said is true however i find the 1/2  or 3/4 oz a better fit for me.

Nothing earth shattering, it's just using a big heavy sinker in when pitching to shallow cover.

Oh well I do that also sometimes with a 1oz jig and a stanly ribbit frog as a trailer big bulky and sounds like some one cannon balling into the water.

The way it sounded in the OP is he put the 1.5 weight infront of the frog............

He wasn't using the weight with the frog.  He was pitching the Missile Baits D-Bomb with the heavy weight and throwing the Phat Frog, not at the same time though.

You need to work on your pitching skills if your "cannon balling" and making a huge racket with a 1oz. jig. LOL I can slip them into the water as subtle and quiet as anything....I'll show you...someday LOL. Although some days making that racket is good.

Thanks for clarifying. I was under the impression that he was using a hollow-body frog with a heavy weight in front of it.

You need to work on your pitching skills if your "cannon balling" and making a huge racket with a 1oz. jig. LOL I can slip them into the water as subtle and quiet as anything....I'll show you...someday LOL. Although some days making that racket is good.

I can slip it in subtle and quiet as well but there are times I take the big heavy jig and make a hail marry cast out infront of my nephew ya know defensive fishing lol. It works I caught a bunch this way 2 years ago early April when we seen a bunch of frogs coming out of winter hiding a light bulb went off to put the frog on the jig as a trailer.

In a lot of the southern tournaments I fish, it's something that will work from 70 degree water through ice up. I use it extensively.
