I caved and bought a bunch of small swim-baits over the new year. Mostly the soft, hollow body type. The closest thing I have to a swim-bait set-up is my old Abu 5501C3 reel with 15# yo-zuri, which is currently on an old 7' MH Shimano stick.  

 

I also have a 51e on a 7' MH All Star. The reel is spooled with 50# braid. I was thinking of striping this reel and re-spooling with some 10# Seguar 100% floro I have. Would that line be too light to throw with this rod and reel set-up?

 

Lastly, I also have a 2500 Stradic and a 30 President, both with 8# zuri. Both are on 6'6" Lightning rods.

 

I have a 7'6" H All Star and a 6' M Cabelas rod as well.

 

Which of these combos would be best suited to throw 5" to 6" soft swim-baits with keel weighted 0/3 - 0/5 hooks?

 When these baits are presented on that hook, they usually are designed to be fished in, around and through some type of cover; otherwise a jighead / open hook could be more effective.

 

I'd say that all the rigs you listed could work with the exception of the light (8 lb test) spinning tackle.

your 51e and all star rod will work just fine with hollow bellies. keep the braid on but tie on a length of 12# fluorocarbon leader to the end and you're good to go.

I throw my soft hollow body's on a 7mh most of the time and sometimes a 7'H. You should be fine. If the cover is really nasty or you decide to cover with a heavier weight with slightly larger swimbait, then u could use the 76H.

I can't speak for every body here because every fishes a little different but the only time I use a medium power rod for a "swim bait" is if it is a weightless fluke or similar soft jerk bait and the cover is,sparse to none.

This will work just fine.

I throw my soft swimbaits with the same rod/reel/line combo that Iuse for spinnerbaits and swimjigs. For me it's a 7 ' MH rod with a 6:1 geared reel, and 30 or 50 lb braid.

The diameter of the Seaguar #10 AbrazX is only .010" which is going to result in the line

digging into the spool. My suggestion is #50 Suffix 832 as the main line with the fluorocarbon

as a leader. Otherwise, I think Yo-Zuri Hybrid #12 is a better choice for mainline without a

leader.
