You advertise to your market segment or you go to a marketing company and ask them for their costs, etc.

If you want to try to market your product yourself you may want to place some small ads in various target magazines to note the response.

In other words, if the product is for fishing you put a small ad in the back of a few fishing magazines. If it is bass specific you go to a specific bass magazine. If it is saltwater, you go to a saltwater fishing magazine.

You can always go to ebay and note the results, too.

Google marketing companies and you can find hundreds around the country. Pick on in your geographical area or who has experience marketing your type of product line.

I remember the story of the first board shorts that were on the market about 30 years ago. The guys were surfing in California and they were complaining that their swim trunks did not dry fast enough and were uncomfortable.

So one of the guys mom decided to take some sail cloth and sew the guys new swim trunks. the sail cloth dries extremely fast and the guys loved them. Other guys surfing saw them and had the mom make some for them.

The mom decided to have a home business making the sail cloth swim trunks and then business boomed with sales around the country. I even had some to swim at my health club. A pretty light blue if I recall.

Now you can get the same type of swim trunks. They are called board shorts and are made out of all types of materials.

And I remember my grandfather. He started to experiment with a soft drink and called his first try 1-Up. He then went on to 2-Up, 3-Up, 4-Up, 5-Up and finally quit after 6-Up. He had no idea how close he came to success!!!!

Just remember that if your product is a success it will be copied in Asia and resold under another name in the USA.

And by the way, you may want to register the product with a patent before you market it.

It won't stop the copy cats in Asia but it will stop the copy cats in the USA.

You can find out how to patent a product via the Internet.

raider nation it is a new fishing rig never seen or done before !im scared to let the cat out of the bag to anyone since the business is so cut throat! this rig is a dandy and i think it can become a seller just as the umbrella rigs, its that good i made a prototype and it does work! the action on this thing is like none ive ever seen and it works with just about any soft plastics!ive drawn and recorded the idea and different idea and dated them i also have a video of the thing working!i just dont have the money to put a patent on it! and patent pending status, and a drawn up non-disclosure agreement  isnt cheap neither kinda at a standstill! i do know that if this was to be seen it will sell millions!

and sam thanks for the info appreciate it!

Well, if it were me, I would ask Bobby Uhrig at MegaStrike and Big O for advice.

Send them a PM with all the pertinent information and sketches of the lures. Request

a time to talk on the phone and if that works out, send them a prototype. You need

some professional help if you ever hope to advance your dream. I doubt that either

of these guys will steal your idea and if you're lucky, maybe they will partner up with

you.

As you stated, you are kinda dead in the water till you get a patent pending. Market it now and poof there goes the neighborhood. Good luck and remember your friends at BR when you make it big.

Even a patent is not safe any longer. A company w/ a lot of $$$ can come in, copy your patent, and start making exact knockoffs cheaper than you can.

The sorry part is if you take them to court they will drag it out as long as possible until your $$$ runs out, and you are forced to drop your case against them.
