Jig And Crankbait Rod?

Featured Replies

To avoid spending tons of money on specific technique setups, I am looking for a rod to cover most uses for jigs. What length, action and power would be suitable for casting and flipping various jig sizes/styles.  Also I am looking for a crankbait rod that also can handle 1.5's up to deep divers like the 6xd.  Again what specs would suffice?  Basically what I am asking is what two rods would you have to cover all your jig  and crankbaits uses.

7'6 MH Veritas is a decent and affordable jig rod.

Jig - 7' - 7'6" Medium Heavy -fast action

Crankbait 7ft Medium Moderate action

What's your price range for each? For jigs I like my Cumara A 72 MHXF for cranks I use an Avid 7' MHM.

Exactly! Though any brand in those will work to :)

dobyns 735c - jigs & frogs & texas rigs etc - $250 msrp

st croix mojo mass 7ft mh f   -- jigs frogs texas rigs spinnerbaits etc - $100 msrp -

dobyns 765CB Glass. - crank baits - $250 msrp

st croix mojo glass 7 4 medium - crankbaits -$120 msrp

st croix mojo glass 78 med heavy -deep crankbaits -$120

( find a good glass rod for cranking  I suggest a Mh to cover all depths)

I was looking at the 7'6 mh bps crankin stick but noticed it had a fast action but was a blend of graphite and fiberglass.  Anybody used them

The crankin stick is great crankbait rod. I have 3 (2 mh &1 m) 7ft. Never had a problem with them.

I use one for deep crankin' and like it at lot. It says it is fast, but it seems to be a medium action to me. Lots of give in the tip.

The Bps crankin stik has a good following. Dont let the four letter word "fast" scare you. Alot of guys that i fish with use them for cranking and they are super satisfied. Hopefully a few guys will chime in that used them before.

The Powell Diesel crank rod is great for the money. For jig rods I think certain MH rods depending on the brand/model are a bit underpowered to throw the heavier jigs. I would like a 7' MH Mod for cranking and a 7' MH or H Fast or XF for jigs.

I personally would divide the money in half and get one rod for each. A rod doesnt have to cost $100 to perform well. If you favor one technique over the other dedicate more money to that rod and less to the other.

Ditto this, especially the crankbait rod recommendation.

H2O Xpress 7'6" XH (feels more like H) Awesome jig rod $60

H2O Xpress 7' CC small - med cranks $60

H2O Xpress 7'10" MH big deep divers $60
