The late Bill Murphy and I have several bass fishing experiences in common. We both started bass fishing in the 50's and belonged to the same bass club (Pisces) during the learly 70's. This coincided with Florida LMB being introduced into our local San Diego lakes, then Southern California lakes. Before FLMB were introduced we couldn't catch a potential record size LMB. By the late 60's we started to catch bigger bass then then we thought possible and members of the Pisces club became focused on big bass, not just catching limits of bass, but 40 lb limits! The competition between members was intense and Murph was always on or near the top big bass for the year. Live bait was not restricted from club competitions, so if you wanted to be in the top 10, you better know how to fish crawdads.

Bill Murphy was tight lipped back in those days and shared nothing, so when his book came out, I was surprised how detailed it was and it is a classic big bass behavior and bass location for deep structured lakes.

Definitely a must read!

Bill Murphy passed awat too young from skin cancer. Please heed this warning; skin cancer can kill, so wear a wide brim hat, SPF clothing and put on a good water resistant sun screen. Bill was careful, but the extended hours exposed to sun reflected off water took it's toll. I am fighting the same malady because our generation didn't know better.

Sounds like an awesome book.

If you want to catch bigger bass, there aren't many better places to start learning about trophy bass behavior.

WRB is another great source.

Bill Murphys book and Bill Siemantles book are both must reads.

What is Bill Siemantles book called?

Thats because its out of print. He recently told me that he has an ebook that will be comming out soon that will cover even more than what the BBZ book did.

WRB?

Look up a couple posts from my original. He's a member here, posted on this topic.

Watch what he talks about, you'll learn some stuff.

It's been on my "to-read" list for a couple of years now, but I still haven't gotten around to it.

Me too.  I guess I should pick it up and read it at least since I can't fish cause my shoulders messed up.

Do it....Just do it.......!

Thanks SPEEDBEAD. You turkeys have sold me on the book as well.  I will wait for Siemantle's ebook then I'll purchase it for my tablet.

Good book. For me it was more about confirmations, as most of the things he did, I was already doing too. I think our styles were pretty similar.... sneaking around in a non-distinct little boat, not wanting to be noticed, not caring about flashy gear, or lures, having no qualms with live bait, etc.

I was given his home ph# one time (by arguably, the biggest name, in big bass fishing), a few years before he passed away, and told I should call him. I remember saying, "Me ? Call big bass guru Bill Murphy ? He probably doesn't even know who I am"..... To which I was told, "Yes, he definately knows who you are, and would probably love to chat with you"...... And then I just never got around to calling him :( Stupid me :(

Peace,

Fish

Well I ordered it.  It should be here sometime next week!

has anybody got there book and do a little reading?

I'm waiting very impatiently for mine!
