Does anyone make their own Punch Skirts? I am NOT referring to the "flipping weight with collar molded in" style. I am looking for a DIY, how-to type of home made punch skirt.

 

I want to know how to make something like a Paycheck BAits Punch Skirt, and perhaps a Finesse version, like the one Zappu puts out.

 

I've read a bunch of reviews on the mass-produced ones, and the two main issues around are: 1) Roughing up line and eventually causing a breakage or 2) Plastic "collars" break, redering the skirt usless. I want my version to be made of some sort of metal, as well as wire or thread tied (wired preferrably).

 

Anyone? Photos appreciated!

You can make them out of lead, paint them and tie your own skirt on them. Lead is soft and won't abraid line like tungsten does or plastic. PM me your e-mail and I will send you a pic to see if that is what you are looking for.

To this point i've been using a cheap fix but need to find any improvement b/c i'm too cheap to pay .70c for a Boss punch hub.  (cheap fix= 1/4" of coffee straw burned at both ends with a match.  the ends curl down for a make shift hub to slide skirt collar around). 

my thoughts for improvement might help spark something for ya.

1-an hour-glass shaped plastic bead.  

2-an hour-glass shaped metal bead.

(hour glass beads seem to be a premium in the 'crafting world' but are still at steal at .05 or .10c).

3-a traditional .01-.02c oval bead.  take a Dremel tool and cut a groove around the center to secure skirt collar/wire.

4-find a resin/play-doe like product that hardens when it sets or is baked.  form my own hour-glass around a small paper clip/wire.  

I'd like to find #1 b/c no modifications are needed.   And I can probably find it in glass for some nice additional lunch bell 'clicking'.  Would probably be extra nice with tungsten banging against it.

i found a bunch online for cheap but still haven't found one that i'm totally happy w/ ie has a very small diameter hole.  most seem to have a 2mm hole. you could probably slide it onto 300lb mono so there would be alot of wiggle room on 65lb. i'll keep ya posted.

I cant recommend the BOSS hubs and o-rings. The groove in the hubs are too shallow, causing the o-ring and skirt to keep slipping off.

he is wire tying it.

I use the BOSS hubs, and I just put a skirt that I make with a rubber rattle band on the hub. Need to use some lube, either spit or KVD line and lure (works best, smells less), and then a little finesse and you have it made!

I was laying in bed the other night thinking you might be able to pull this off with a coffee straw, but not wire tying it.

Believe it or not you can actually get brass hubs from LPO, they make them from like 1/16oz up to 1/4oz and have a nice nub to flair the skirt if you tie it on.
