Usually when I am changing out lures frequently I will tie on a swivel to speed up the transition. Do you guys do the same, or just tie directly to the O-ring? I never hear anyone mention the usage of swivels and so was wondering if I am alone in this?

I use a duo lock snap, or a Norman speed clip and usually remove the o-ring....

I use them on crankbaits. I stay away from them on soft plastics or finesse situations because they mess up the action.

I use the Duolock snaps on most occasions because I have a tremor condition with my hands that makes it very difficult for me to tie a knot.

I use the dual lock snaps some, they're trickier for things like spinnerbaits and buzzbaits because the snap will slide around. But I found if I'm using a size 3 snap, I can slip a size 3 split ring on the lure first, then put on the snap, and it can't slide around.

That works, but I buy aquarium aeration or surgical tubing and cut short pieces (quarter inch) and slide them over the R-bend in spinner baits. That leaves enough room for a snap (no swivel).

I use swivel and leader nearly 100% of the time, when using hard baits in freshwater I use a duolock, for a dedicated outfit using a spinnerbait I would tie.

Normally, I tie direct. The only time I don't is when fishing waters with 'toothy' fish like pike and musky, in which case I'm using a leader.  I do something similar to basseditor, but use shrink tubing on the spinnerbaits.  BTW, I was observing my football jig as I dragged it over some pea gravel and thought it could use a little more action.  I retied with a loop knot and couldn't believe the difference. I guess that'd be another place to use a snap or quick clip.

Yup...I've got hundreds of split rings just laying around, that's why I just go with those. I've heard of using rubber o-rings as well.

I can't and never will trust a loop knot, especially on a jig.  I can't seem to justify replacing a palomar with it.  I think its just a mental barrier for me. lol I see guys using them on topwater and stuff and It gets me all nervous.

I'm not big on clips or snaps.  I find it easier to tie a knot than to use my stubby little fingers to close the wire on the clip.  As I get even older and arthritis sets in even more, I might change my attitude.

Zell Rowland agrees with you. He told me that he always ties directly to the bait.  I respect his opinion but don't follow it .....

Never been the biggest fan of any type of snap.

 

However, this past spring I was shown that they do have their place in the right situation.

 

I've been trying this Spro version out - mostly on crank / jerk baits.

 

This model is made from quality material and once you get the hang of it, goes on / off easily.

 

Still need to do a bit more R & D but it looks promising so far.

I like a snap for cranks.  I tie on with everything else.  Those trebles can be a pain sometimes.

Have you tried to put them on sideways, without squeezing them open? I saw someone do that and the Norman snaps are super easy to put on or take off now.

I just keep fighting with these things because I like the way they do the job and for some reason it never occured to me to do that.
