Depends who you ask, I use to think a 5-6 lber was big, but after getting to know and fish with Shanej, I now think it's probably 8-9 lbs.

In-Fisherman established regional trophy bass sizes for LMB and SMB for their Master Angler awards program that is a good bench mark; region 1 was LMB = 6.5 lbs or 22", SMB = 5 lbs or 20".

Tom

PS, region 1 is northeastern states and northern midwest states.

A "trophy" to me is something I haven't caught in NY, yet - an eight plus fish.  I've seen them.  My PB is 7-2, and last spring I came close with a 7-1.  Great fish, to be sure, as were the several fives and sixes I've caught over the years.  I've just seen too many fives and sixes weighed in at tournaments to call them trophies.

Haha, that is the quote of the day. Shane catches bass that I would consider trophy largemouth (6.5+) on a weekly basis!

I'm with Francho on the trophy designation but I won't be happy until I stick a DD in Pennsylvania.

Watch. ;)

Yeah, for me, any bass over 6lbs at least gets a photo, but I consider anything in NH over 8lbs a trophy fish, 5lbs for smallies. I've caught 12 LM in NH over 8lbs (1 over 9), but only 4 SM over 5lbs. When I'm fishing down south, though, I only consider a 10lb bass "a nice bass" (like a 5lb NH fish), it's gotta be 11-12lbs to be real nice, and 13+ a trophy.
