Soft Plastic Oil/grease

Featured Replies

I noticed that when soft plastic are in its original packaging bag the bait is fairly oily and greasy with a certain scent or taste (I think). My question here is when storing soft plastic in plano box does it ruin the taste or scent to the soft plastic bait? I've tried putting them in zip lock bags but it's a hassel ... any suggestion?

Yes it will evaporate some if it is water based bit it won't matter much.  I make my own plastics and the ones without scent catch as many fish as the ones with scent.

Get a worm binder and keep them in their original packs. Best way to keep them fresh and mess free. BPS had some nice ones for $14.88 yesterday.

Whatever you do...if you ever buy z-man products, ALWAYS keep them in the original package. If they are even in the same plano box as other types of soft plastics, you'll have a mess.

This. I had a chatter bait trailer melt and it made a greasy mess.

I traded ZMan a few old original chatterbaits for a plano box full of soft plastics and new chatterbaits. I messed up and put a zoom trailor on one the chatterbaits...which resulted into a big ball of elaztech/plastic gunk.

Baits will lose their scent a bit, but not completely. I have baits in plano boxes that still have the hog tonic on them that I dumped on them 2 months ago.

you dump hog tonic in your boxes? you my friend are insane!

I was putting some in bags of plastic the other day and called the old lady over ..."smell this"....

"GAG... oh my god dont ever ask me to smell anything like that again"

Or just get a bigger storage box and keep them in there bags!!! I still think they should make a men's after shave smell like a pack of worms!!

this is what i do. works well for me in my kayak.

I keep 99% of my plastics in their original bags so not to lose their good scent. I use to put all of my plastics in plano boxes, the boxes eventually turned black and the plastics had a foul chemical order. I believe that turned off the fish, so I ended up throwing them away.

Original bags for me. Main reason for me is I know the brands, type and what color the package by heart. Makes it easier to find what I need
