Uni-knot or Nail knot

Featured Replies

i have a rod with mono and one with braided. A uni-knot is suggested for braided. How well would a nail knot do with the braided? I tied some just for practice and it seems to work nicely. The reason I say a nail knot is because I just found my Tie-Fast tool from my fly fishing days. I had to go to the all mighty Youtube to get a refresher on how to use the tool. It said you could use a nail knot for lots of applications. So what do you think?

For tieing a leader to braid..uni to uni

Lures on braid...Palomar  Same with fluro, or mono.

Lots of people I know of use a double palomar for braid to lure.  Helps with the slippage of braid a little.

Why would you use a nail knot to tie to the lure?  A Uni, or double Uni has given me the best results.  For straight shank flipping hooks, I use a snell knot.

As far as a braid to leader, nothing beats an Alberto knot.

Slippage of braid?

My braid is 55lb samuri..I throw up to 4.5 oz swimbaits on a 7'11" heavy rod using a regular palomar knot, and have never experinced slippage, or a knot failure. Maybe if the braid you use is really Waxey..it may slip, if it does, maybe you should use a braid w/o wax..?  :(
