Fall Jerkbaits?

Featured Replies

does anyone use jerkbaits in the fall, and if so how do you fish them?

The same as in spring, in the water, where the fish are. :)

x2.

They are a simple bait. Don't overthink them. :)

Find baitfish. Throw Super Fluke/Sluggo/Caffeine Shad/etc and slam them.

I'm assuming you mean hard, suspending jerkbaits and yes I do fish them in the fall and yes the can be extremely effective in the fall also. I fish them the same but a lot of the time you can fish them faster in the fall than you can in the spring.

Spring, summer, fall winter. They're a consistent bait period.

That's true, but they really shine RIGHT NOW!

Just a longer pause in colder water, and more erratic in warmer!

Even when the water is cold play with different pause durations.  I was out a few days ago (Northern Nebraska less than a week from ice out) and had to really snap it fast to get hit.  Long pauses were ignored.  Switched over to some one knocker lipless baits with a rip/pause and it was game on.  Changed back to a jerkbait with a snappy retrieve and it was no longer ignored.
