Never tried it.  For this, I really prefer Megastrike.

I don't see why you can't dip your trailer in JJ's. however the skirt, I wouldn't. Rub it down with Megastrike. I do with my hairs and have bad no issues

Matte down the hair with megastrike?

Nah, just a tiny bit, to grease it up, but not matted, or slicked together.  You want to leave some air for the hair to "breathe."

I would use JJ's on the trailer but not the hair of the jig.If you want to put sent on the hair go with the Megastrike like the others have said!

I don't use a trailer on a hair jig.  The trailer interferes with the hair, which is it's own trailer.

I was wondering how that would be possible because its a gel. My hair jigs look like edward scissor hands hair cut... hair everywhere.

I don't really fish hair jigs but with my rubber skirt jigs I've been getting in the habit of not putting any attractant on the skirts, only on the trailer and heads. I feel, without any scientific proof,  it inhibits the natural action as well as make it less full.

Don't use any oily or greasy attractants on the hair. Deer hair will stick together just like human hair does when wet with oil or grease on it. In fact you should wash the hair jig in mild unscented soap in warm water and blow dry it before fishing with a hair jig.

If you want to add scent use a scent impregnated finesse soft plastic worm section about 3/4" long on the jig hook under the hair to help flare the hair out, then nose hook the trailer. If you are flipping or pitching the jig into heavy cover, use a pre scented (not a scent you add) soft plastic trailer and run the plastic up the hook shank under the hair.

You can use a crushed fresh garlic clove mixed in your jig trailers for scent without matting the hair. Remember real pork rind trailers are ideal for hair jigs.

Tests your jig in the water next to the boat; the hair should flare out and move with slight jig movement, that is the appeal to bass, hair looks and feel alive to bass, but not of it looks like a oily greased mop.

My tails are pretty thin, and the deer hair is stiff and thick.  A tiny amount doesn't affect them.

thanks guys..  i've never fished a hair jig before.  but thought i'd give it a try. (and i picked them up to use at Pickwick on the Roadtrip ??) i hadn't planned on using a trailer thinking it would interfere with the natural action.  it sounds like i shouldn't dip the hair in JJ's, so i'm glad i asked.  i do like the idea of using just a small section of a finesse worm that is either already scented or use a Zoom finesse worm and dip it in clear JJ's.

or..i may try the Megastrike on just the tips...

or...since it is 20 degrees here today and the forecast for Sunday is Hi of 34 and 70% chance of rain.  i may have to find out how i do using a hair jig on another day... LOL!!

I have never done this but Jeff of confidence baits makes his own hair jigs and adds material just for soaking in scent, you could find the video on youtube.

Dont grease up the hair...but you can add scent if you want...Wrap a pipe cleaner around the hook and add scent to that if your not using a trailer.
