So the bacon or cheese thread got me to wondering what is your favorite pizze both in style and in toppings.

 

I prefer the NY style thin crust--not that crispy stuff either and here is my list of favorites in no particualr order

• plain
• pepperoni
• sausage, riccota and fresh basil
• roma tomato slices, fresh basil and ricotta

Also all of these include a good blend of mozarella, provolone and romano cheeses.

x2 on NY Style but extra crispy.  My favorite is plain old "Plain" as long as it's a great sauce and quality cheese.

 

When I want to go crazy it's a Hawaiian Pizza with a twist ... Bacon instead of ham, pineapples and a lot of red pepper flakes !!!

I like thin, pan, and deep dish.  Not a fan of extra thin. Reminds me of eating a fancy cracker. 

 

Topping favorites are pepperoni, bacon, green pepper, and mushroom.  Crushed red pepper and some parmasean grated cheese on top. 

I like thin crust, if it's done right.  We have two places here that are pretty close to the real deal, both run by Brooklyners.  I've also had some pretty good deep dish from a place called Chester Cab.  Coincidentally, the owner is from Chicago.  The best pizza I ever had was from Lombardo's in NY. The slices were so huge, they lay out five paper plates, and slap it on there.  Across the street from my house is a place called Guida's. Brick oven Sicilian thick crust with a sweet tomato sauce; great stuff if you like thick crust.  For toppings, cheese, pepperoni, banana peppers and ricotta.  Add some crushed red pepper and Tabasco to taste.

Whatever style of pizza Papa John's has is what I like the best.  We don't have one close, but whenever we go on vacation, we always order Papa John's delivery!

This thread is really making me hungry for pizza now. Pizza never gets old.

Haha, I don't even know what Chicago style pizza is.  Never had it.

When i moved to VA from PA for school on my first night in the dorm we all ordered pizza.  I wasn't feeling like pizza but i said order me some fries....they all looked at me like i had two heads and said pizza places don't have fries.....i said what the crap.  I later then saw the papa johns delivery guy and that was my first experience....oh and papa johns is probably my least favorite pizza out there.

 

There is a real good pizza joint here that i found after trying about 10 different places.  I have a few criteria when i walk into a pizza place and this place hit them all...

1. must sell pizza by the slice
2. must speak italian in the kitchen
3. must not load on a ton of cheese
4. If I ask for a pie they know what ia m talking about
5. and for a bonus if the place has kids running around of the owner and they are speaking italian that is always a bonus too

Deep Dish is referred to Chicago style.  Also thin crust Chicago is cut in squares, where NY thin is cut into giant triangles like JFrancho mentioned.  By the way John, I saw that place you're talking about on either Anthony Bourdain or Man Vs Food. I can't remember but it was insanity how big the piece was.

 

Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, Little Casears, Dominos................don't count. You might as well go to the freezer section and buy a Tombstone or DiGiorno. 

While I agree, Pizza Hut is NOT real pizza, I have been known to decimate the lunch buffet, lol.

Bassturds, Now I have to order a stuffed sausage pie from Giordanos.

 

I'm pretty simple with toppings. Sausage, fresh tomato, fresh garlic, and during lent, spinach. 

Best is NY or Brooklyn style from an authentic pizzeria if possible. For that style, just gimme a pepperoni.

And the pizza slices must not be rigid, must ooze grease. Must be able to semi-fold without drooping at the point end. Minimal crust.

Then there is Andy's Pizza down in Newport News which makes a fantastic Buffalo-chicken pizza with blue cheese drizzled on, baked in.

Dang I wish I didn't start a low carb diet this week....

Hard to find real pizza down here, but theres a little hole in the wall about 45 mins from me that is run by Sicilians (hope i spelled that right) they make a deep dish pizza in a brick oven that is to die for! Sauce is kinda sweet, the bend of cheeses are awesome (put on sparingly, the way i like) freshly cooked Italian sausage that is cut and ground up in small thin chunks. Pepperoni, mushrooms, black olvies.

I forgot about black olives...they are always a good addition as long as they aren't the super salty ones. 

 

I also remember as a kid getting a tomato pie when we would go to the shore which was always good too...minmal cheese and good sauce and crust.

Pizza's here. This is a stuffed pizza which is not a traditional Chicago style. A stuffed pizza is a crust, about 50lbs of delicious cheese and whatever other ingredients you order topped off with sauce. The traditional deep dish pizza has a slightly thicker crust and then everything is layered. A layer of sauce, a layer of meat a layer of cheese a layer of other ingredients and more sauce and maybe more cheese.

My absolute favorite of all time was from a place in Brandon Florida called "Babes" used to be on the corner of Rt. 60 and S. Kings Ave,  it was two of there pizzas slapped on top of each other and called the "double decker". Chain pizza...............barf. I only get my pizza from mom and pop local places. My top six:

All family owned, original pizzas. About the only "chain" pizza I can stand is the ones Wegmans makes, they are pretty good. Dominos, Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, etc... IMHO............garbage.

Man you are lucky to have a top 6....I only have one but luckily it is only 5 minutes from my house.

All this talk about pizza, the wife and i stoped at the our little pizza joint on the way to pick up our son from his grandmas place. Luckily its half way way between her place and ours.

Man it was good. 13 bucks for a pizza that takes us two days to eat is awesome. The pizza was huge, deep and load with calories that we dont need. Only 8 slices, but one standard sized plate can barely hold one slice.

I understand you guys not liking chain pizza and I actually prefer family run pizzerias myself but since I work for Dominos and it's free, its what I eat most of time.  But working there affords me the opportunity to try new pizzas and different combinations that I probably would have never tried otherwise.  Never would have tried a buffalo chicken pizza on my own but man Is it good.    Lately I've been making Brooklyn styles with light, light, hardly any sauce and extra, extra mozzarella/provolone.  I also like to do the Brooklyn with pepperoni, salami, sliced sausage, diced tomatoes and extra provolone.

 

If I'm not working and want pizza (which isn't often since I work/eat Dominos 6 days a week), there's a place that just opened up around the corner that's really good.  Brooklyn style pizza, sold by the slice, with Italian speaking family in the kitchen.  The pizzas are huge too.  The slices are almost the size of a plastic lunch tray and you can get 2 slices and a soda for 5 bucks.  They also have awesome cheesesteaks and meatball subs.

I have a Pizza hut and a Caseys within a mile of my house, other than that i have to drive 30 minutes and still cant find a decent pizza place .

 

Anyone know of a good pizza place in KC?
