A Look Back At Bass Fishing

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. I always like listening to the veterans of bass fishing.

Well, I didn't think much of it...Dude must have been asleep in 1967. My brother, father

and grandfather were fishing purple worms in the 50's and even us kids knew how to

set a hook! That makes the whole story sound bogus to me. His jig theory is even more

ridiculous.

BTW, "The Magic Lure" in the early to mid 60's was the original Rapala. In addition to

plastics worms we also had the Gitzit. I learned topwater at a very early age simply because

my dad didn't like losing lures. The Devil Horse was my favorite "back in the day".

Ya I thought the same thing about the jig theory... Doesn't sound like he has any idea what he's talking about.

I don't know if baits are "regional", at least as far as the fish are concerned. No magic there, just gotta have the right type of water, prey, conditions, and circumstances in front of you and a given bait will catch them. Now confidence...that can get pretty squirrelly.

I'll give him a break and suggest he probably WAS asleep in 1967. In other words, he wasn't fishing back then, or just starting. We all have to start somewhere. And information availability, and probably expendable income, wasn't what it is today.

Didn't really pay attention to the jig theory RW, I just like listening to the old school talk about how they were fishing back in the day. I have a question for you though; were those purple worms home made or were they manufactured? When did the plastic worm first hit the market?

Answered my own question...this is even a better read! Didn't realize Bass Resource had articles of historical context.
