Lipless Crankbaits Vs Spinners

Featured Replies

Which do you prefer and for what situations, lipless crankbaits or spinnerbaits.

Lipless in open flats to cover lots of open water, spinnerbaits when against shore because its weedless for the most part..

If you have never ripped a lipless out of the weeds you are missing out.

I meant to also add weedless spoons into that question.

I haven't caught enough fish on a lipless to justify throwing it much. Spinnerbait all the way for me.

I have more confidence throwing a lipless when I am fishing a river for some reason.  Spinnerbaits I throw in lakes, I just think it's a confidence thing.

I never pass up a chance to throw a spinnerbait, doesn't matter what the conditions or time of day, I'm all in!!

I recently started throwing more and more lipless but seem to be the king of getting impossible snags. Lost 2 in one day fishing

I throw lipless in cold water (40-55 degrees) ripping, or pumping it out of grass, or fan casting flats. 1/2oz. from the bank to 10-12 feet, 3/4oz if I am working a little deeper like 8-15 feet, or 1/4 oz. if I am staying less than 4 feet deep in ultra clear shallow water.

I like spinnerbaits around wood/docks in 50+ degree water, or over/through grass any time there is a little wind, and a little color to the water. I generally like squarebills better in spinnerbait "water" but for some reason there are times when they just want a spinnerbait more. The swim jig has all but replaced the spinnerbait for me in clear water.

I never used one of those lure retrievers until last week, I was missing out. They dont work for every snag but when they do work they are awesome. Pull the boat on top of the snag shake the rod a little and the lure pops right off.

I throw lipless baits more often than spinner baits but it's more of a confidence thing. I throw swim jigs more often than spinner baits though.

I've caught more fish on a lipless. That's why I like them. I need to throw a spinnerbait more, especially against the banks.
