Featured Replies

What do you go to when your tried of peanuts and want to entice the biggest bass in the pond?

I know this goes against the big bait big fish idea but all of my bigger fish have come on finesse baits, 4" shakey head, 3 1/2" tube, weightless 5" stick bait, 2" jerkbait.

Try the Keitech Swing Impact Fat on a weighed Gamakatsu 5/0 Monster Hook. I caught some nice fish this year with this bait.

Its tough for me to pick one bait. It really depends on the situation and what it calls for. If I had to pick just one though. Nothing has the drawing power of a big  swimbait. For now I will say the BBZ 1 Floater in silver fish. This was my most productive big fish bait last year.

Worst case and you don't catch'em you will at least find out where they live. Caution your our eyes may start to look like this. ;)

of the 5 double-digits i've caught the last couple years, 3 have come on 1/8 bitsy bugs tagged with zoom super chunk jrs.

black and blue booyah bed bug jigs.

1/2 oz Brown weedless skirted jig with a brown chunk.

Plain and simple.

Some of my best smallmouth and PB largemouth bass were caught with this jig combo.

10" Rage Tail Thumper worm with a 6/0 Owner and a 3/8 oz tungsten weight.

The same lures I throw for regular fishing. If I really want to step it up, I'll throw a larger worm. You can catch as many dinks on large baits as small baits though.

For me it's not the lure, it's the location i am in. If i am catching only dinks, i move spots to where i think there is bigger fish. Than i apply the technique that i think will entice them the best(with the same lures i always use).

10" Thumper and/or Anaconda w/Tungsten, Jig'n'Lobster, C rigged Eeliminator.

All of the above are above average profile and move water.

Try to fish at night when you can.

Some underestimate the effectiveness of C rigs at night...The weight dragging on the bottom and causing some commotion is a real key here. Keep the pause a little longer so the fish can locate it in the darkness. Scents like JJ's or Megastrike are a bonus.

My biggest bass have come on jig n craw or just the craw alone.

A TX rigged 10" powerworm or a crankbait. The cranks will also catch a lot of small fish but the majority of my bigger fish have come from cranks and I also netted a 10lb 11oz that was caught on a crank.

X-rap, BBZ-1 natural shad, 8" Zoom Lizard.

7-2: 10" Worm

6-8, 6-5, 6-2, 2x 6-0: Jig

6-1: Frog

6-2: spinnerbait

It isn't really what you throw, its where.

I agree.  There is no magic bait that will turn you into a trophy angler.  I tend to think larger baits are more likely to entice larger fish but the fish often prove me wrong.

my biggest fish came on a 5" trick stick , a zoom fluke jr. and an 8" taper tail.

Smallmouth - Strike King Bitsy Bug Jig (usually black) with a YUM Craw Trailer.

Largemouth - 10" Ribbon Tail Worm... Any brand will do ;)
