Hollow Belly Swimbaits On Football Jig Heads

Featured Replies

I can't find any swimbait hooks I like in stock right now. I like fishing a 6" hollow belly with a 3/4 oz open jig head. Every local tackle store is out and a lot of the online places are out as well.

I am new to fishing swim baits and I have had some great outings the last few days. I am down to only 1 hook.

I was wondering if any of you swimbait gurus have fished swim baits on football jig heads (without a skirt of course)? I have been catching a lot of fish just slow rolling a normal swimbait head. I just don't want to waste time if it is not a successful way to fish the swimbaits.

Thanks

Biffle head is money. I also prefer solid swimbaits like Keitechs on a regular football bc it's got a bit more material to hold on the head better.

J-will swimbait heads. They have head with a heavy 5/0 hook & also a more finesse version with a 3/0 light wire. I really like the mushroom style head on these, comes through the grass rather well, i usually have a 1/4oz head tied on.+1 for solid swimbaits, my favorite is a Xzone Swammer.

I rarely caught bass on hollowbellys until I started fishing them on 3/4 oz jig heads.  I use a conical shaped Owner jig head.  Big advantage - you can cast it a mile and cover water at any depth down to 25-30 ft.  Yes, it works.

Have you tried Moaner hooks? They make the stoker which is the best hook I've found.

I don't know if I would use a jig head. The bait may not last long.

Football heads are the main thing I fish mine on. I pour my own so I can use different size hooks for whatever size bait I'm planning on using. Plus they only cost me a few cents to pour instead of a dollar or more apiece like store bought heads so I'm willing to fish them in nastier areas.
