Jika Rig

Featured Replies

I've been reading about the Jika so I had to try it. I was fishing points and switching between C-Rigs, T-Rigs, Jigs like normal and throwing Jika into the mix. I caught fish on all except the Jika so I'm not sure about all of the buzz. I did get a few hits on it, but not like the others, especially the C-Rig. Just couldn't stick em with the Jika, any thoughts?

Has been working well for me. Very good hook up percentage as well. I have only thrown 2 baits on it, Rage Craw and Pit Boss

It's all about confidence. If you are used to throwing T-rigs and jigs and having success, mixing in the Jika and not getting similar results as quick will discourage your efforts, causing you to go back to what you have confidence in. This happens to me all the time when I try something new. Next time you go out, only bring Jika rigs and fish 'em. With no other options at hand, your confidence may go up. Just my 2 cents.

I've been using it a lot and its been doing pretty well for me. Been throwing rage craws and d bombs, although I get more bites on the rage craw. I'm not sure what i changed, but my hook up wasn't that great when i first started using it, but now I feel that my hook up ratio is pretty good.

Thanks for the responses... I guess I won't throw it into my junk drawer just yet...lol

easy to make as well. i made some smaller jikas using smaller hooks and weight. used it last time out with a 4" havoc beat shad and caught a few including a 5lber. nothing was working so i figured i'd try something different with a swim bait. glad i did! most of the fish came off a point slow dragging and bouncing into to deeper water. the female was sitting in about a foot of water and took it after the first twitch. quite versatile and part of my lineup for sure now. don't give up yet!

take it without any other rods, thats how i gained the confidence on frogs and pitchin, lol for a week i too frog rod and big flippin stick with me only

i have actually never seen this rig before, i had to look it up before i commented. what would someone recommend throwing on it if the lake does not support crawfish. i know that is not supposed to be a problem but i have never caught a fish on a craw type bait and i have extensively tried.

I was also intrigued on the Jika rig and it's supposed excellence in coming through grass.  I had some Bass Pro gift cards so i went in and picked up some stuff to rig up a few.

I got to throw it once and i will say that i have never used a bait that comes through grass as easily and without snags or picking up vegetation like this rig.  Now i didn't catch anything but i think that was more because i found a really good crankbait bite that particular day but i definitely plan on using it more this summer and i have no doubt that it sill be a good bait for fishing deeper vegetation.

Building confidence in a new presentation takes time. Try it again sometime, and again, until it works! That said, the only bites I've ever gotten off a jika is while pulling bass off the beds with z-man crawdadz. That particular lure works really well on this rig because the crawdad is ultra bouyant and stands straight up (while being pegged to the ground by the weight) and its legs and claws undulate just from holding the rod. It's neat finesse application for the j-rig.

Just a heads up= Try using the Norman Speed Clips for the weight and now you can change weights very fast! It works great, you can change weights in seconds.

How heavy do you think you could go? Do you think with 1oz or heavier weights it would/could get good weed penetration or is the rig better off being used with little or no weeds? I've only started using the rig maybe 6 weeks ago and the weeds aren't in heavy yet.

I am going to fish it with a 1 oz. for deep outside weedlines and for flippin the heavy stuff. But most of the time I will fish 1/8 oz. 1/2 oz.3/8 oz. and a

1/4 oz. it just depends on how deep and fall rate I want.

To answer your question better! I fish this rig in heavy weeds and lack of weeds. It is a great punch rig because the way it falls and the free movement of the bait.I like this rig alot on deep outside weedlines.Lizards, baby paca craws, baby Brush Hogs,swimbaits,flukes,.ect.

I caught a bass on my first cast wiht the JIKA rig.

Then proceeded to catch two more before putting it away so I would not lose it.

Go figure?

  • 2 weeks later...

love it, u can use any creature plastic or fluke .

Is everyone using EWG hooks or anyone using straight worm shanks or different for that matter? Ewg seems to be most common. I'm going to toy with this rig in a couple weeks for the first time.

I just put 8 of these little suckers together, can't wait to fish them. I think they will crush at my local hole.

what hook does everyone use with this rig when making them?  ive had trouble fitting a #3 split ring in the hooks line tie in hooks other than a 5/O.  i just want to use a little smaller hook
