Dilemma On Used Rod Purchase/damage

Featured Replies

Purchased a used Avid 6'6"MF. Recieved it today in PVC tube. Inspected it and found a crack/splintering in the blank.

I paid 98 for it. Should I keep it till it finally lets go, then use the Gold Service from St Croix for a replacement? (Save 20 bucks off if I had bought an out right new) Or return it for a refund and then be out the shipping money as well as looking for a replacememt?

If it were me I'd keep it...... add to the collection and use it lightly until it goes. That said, if you only have a couple of rods and will be using it more often then I would consider returning it. As far as I'm concerned, it all boils down to the frequency of use and what applications you would implement. You may get by using it for spinners or something where you can sweep set a hook instead of something like frogs/t-rigs where you need to really snap the rod to set the hook.

Hope this helps,

Coak

The Avid AVC66MF is my dedicated jerkbait rod. I would have it replaced by St. Croix.

That was my plans for it.  I emailed the seller, and sent pictures. (Figured it was the right thing to do)  I purchased it from Ebay, and the description said "No Returns".  I told him how the packaging wasn't damaged, and sent many pics.  He said that it was fine when he sent it, and that his wife actually forgot to buy insurance for it.....

But they was going to issue me a full refund immediately.  I emailed him back thanking him, and asked where shall I ship it, since I had to get it out immediately due to me and the family leaving on vacation tonight.  He said that normally he would file a insurance claim, and get reimbursed for the damages, but since insurance was never purchased, and since it was broke/cracked, that I shouldn't waste any of my mony on shipping it back.  So I should just keep it and trash it or try to fix it.

Guess who is going to call St. Croix right now.  :respect-059:

Another option would be a repair. The crack can be over sleeved with a thin wall fiberglass piece or if it's not crushed too badly simply wrapping and epoxy over the bad spot may make it last indefinetely.

I would have to agree with RW and Mike here. BUT..... :Victory:

IMPO If I paid $100 for a used rod and received it in less than fishable shape I would be ticked, and letting were ever I purchased it from know just how ticked...

Good Luck & Tight Lines!  :fishing1:
