300 Acre Lake Too Small For Motor Boat?

Featured Replies

My family is considering a camp sight on waterfront property. We have located a lake (Tuscarora Lake in Nelson, NY) which is approx. 302 acres. It is a  long and narrow lake and I am thinking motor boating is prohibited due to the size and shape of the lake. My boat is 150 HP, what do you guys think?

Would double check the regulations for the specific place, may be electric only or have HP restrictions. No way to know without checking.

Thanks I did just check and it is limited to only 5 HP.

Obviously the lake you're going to has restrictions, but the general answer to the question is "no" in my opinion. I'm familiar with bodies of water that size and there's no problem with motors.

It's certainly not too small for a motorized boat. I take mine with a 60hp on lakes down to just a few acres as long as they have boat ramps. As you've found however, smaller lakes will often have HP restrictions or speed limits to prevent shoreline erosion and boating accidents and make time on the water more enjoyable for others.
