When It Comes To Rapala, Where Did The Term "rap" Come From?

Featured Replies

Almost every Rapala Bait produced has the term "Rap" associated with it

Rattlin Rap

Shad Rap

Minnow Rap

X Rap

Risto Rap

Get what I'm saying

Is this just a take on the inventors name RAPala or is there something else behind it?

I can't conceive of any reason other than "Rap" being the first three letters of the name.

Marketing ploy.

Gets you to remember the brand's name.

Like "Coke" for any soft drink.

theres a difference in a couple of their products. when you buy clacking lures or scatter lures they are identified as a clackin rap or a clacking crank, a scatter rap or a scatter crank. the difference is that the rap is like a shad rap, thin and longer while the crank is fatter and maybe shorter.

I think thats just a southern thing.

And it's very strange to me that a lot of the country calls it pop.  Here in St Louis we call it, well, soda...

For some reason I find it hilarious that someone took the time to make that map.

There's all kinds of maps like that, and yeah, someone has too much time on their hands.  They are called culture maps.

It came from their first deep diving crank bait; Fat Rap to separate it from all the slender Rapala minnow lures.

Rapala is the original inventor's name and he was from Finland.  We have a Finnish fisherman here and he pronounces rapala by rolling the r.
