Glad he was caught.  I guess when there is money involved there will inevitably be someone who will cheat to get it.

Sucks but seems pretty extreme for a penalty to me.  I mean give him a fine and ban him from tournaments but revoking his license to hunt and fish for 2 years seems excessive.  

 

I mean look at all the athletes who cheat in all sports and they never go to jail they just get suspended for some games and start over.  At least in a fishing tourney you can definitively say who won the tournament where in other sports it isn't cut and dry.

That's not a fair comparison, because those athletes' crimes didn't involve wild animals.

Considering he was trying to steal a prize worth $10,000 and the maximum penalty is 5 years in jail and a $10,000 fine, I think he got off pretty easy.

It sounds like he has a history of like violations......I think he should have gotten the 5 years, 10K fine and permanent loss of license......but that's just me...

True but i guess really the fish & game part is really a side not to the attempt at stealing prize money as was noted in other posts.  

 

And i would argue that the behavior of some of the athletes designate them as wild animals and not human  

I definitely think he should have lost his fishing and hunting license for life.

3 hots and cot for a mere week on a felony conviction with a prior history is getting off very light, he'll probably enjoy that time away from his wife.  Think he has a chance to become jailhouse attorney in that period and save the $75 public defender fee for his next trial, as it will happen again.

Only if you financially cant afford an attorney. If you have a steady income, nope.

thats why i dont bother with tournaments that involve money or prizes....it seems to bring out the worse in people...IMO the best tournaments are the ones you can have the most fun at with everyone else

I think he should be denied a fishing license nationwide forever.

I read a story a while ago where someone put weights in the fish's stomach. He was winning a bunch of tourneys and I think he got caught because one of the fish died and they found the weights in it.

That's too far IMO. Bringing a fish u catch previously isn't harming the fish but what this other guy did he should be facing jail time IMO that's a way worse form of cheating

I don't agree, man. Obviously all of those other sports' penalties aren't working too well since people are getting caught on a weekly basis. We need the harshest possible penalties in this sport. Glad this guy went down.

I agree. the penalty was definately fitting the crime. Cheating is no different than robbery. You have 99% of the people paying they're entry fees and agreeing to play by the rules and one guy cheating in an attempt STEAL other peoples money. I can't stand cheaters.
