Who here use 7.1 gear ratio for cranking deep cranks 20ft plus?

You are better off using a lower ratio 5.3 to 1 or similar, otherwise it's like riding your bicycle uphill in high gear.

5.1 for me, not only is it easier on me but it keeps me from fishing the bait too fast.

My forearm is burning just reading that...

I was throwing a 5XD this past Friday on my STX HS reel on a 7'3" MH rod on Seaguar InvizX 15lbl fluro.  One thing I had forced myself to remember was...SLOW DOWN.  There was alot of hydrilla I was ripping it out of.  You can fish any type lure, on any type combo, the one thing you have to do is make adjustments to the gear you are using.  I backed off the drag some, and slowed down my retrieve.

Heck, you could even get Mobey Dick in on a willow branch with a shoelace, and a paper clip for a hook  (far fetched...I know :o)

I would if someone made a 7:1 reel with enough power so it  doesn't  it feel like your pulling a mack truck through the water when winding a big crank. The only reason I use a 5:1 is for power, not speed. I crank that reel as fast as I can most of the time.

I had arms like Popeye from logging for 30 years. I picked up a spinning reel that has a 6.3 ratio to burn spinnerbaits but it tires me out. I really don't enjoy fishing with it. Are the higher crankbait ratios any easier to crank?

I just found the 7.1 ratio baitcasters at, www.fishandsave.com
