Extreme Rain

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

The last month in Georgia has been pretty crazy. We have seen record rains, and it's come to the point where it rains at some point EVERY day. And these rains aren't light, they are monsoons, complete down pours. We in Georgia are used to these sporadic thunderstorms, as they're rather common for us. The incredibly annoying aspect of this is the daily rainfall. It doesn't stop me from fishing, it has just completely changed the environment I'm fishing in. The water level is much higher, the water is incredibly murky, and the fish are just not biting at all. I've tried everything that people have suggested, be it going to darker colors, larger profile baits, slowing down, and using noisier baits. I'm just on a medium sized pond, that is generally pretty good for fishing, but I just have not found any success recently. Hoping y'all could give me some tips.

Much appreciated,

PB

Fish the old bank as if it is  now the first "ledge" available when water rising or stable at height, and fish structure away from the original edge as the water retreats.

It has gone this way in KY where I live as well. We've had rain nearly everyday, complete downpours, for weeks now. Some of my waters are a complete mess, others are just murkier than normal. None have risen higher than normal though (except the river). They are flood control lakes. Their spillways are running high, but the lake itself is normal depth.

It was this way in NC for about 3 weeks up until last week. Water levels incredibly high, clarity awful.. The whole 9. I tried fishing deeper and just couldnt get bit. I was however throwing jigs, poppers, buzzbaits, square bills, and some other things right along the bank lines and hooked into some nice fish. 3-4 pound bass. For me, it just had to be a slow presentation. My buzzbait for instance.. I could open it up, and nothing would touch it, but once I started slowing down, I started pulling them out of the water.

Just fish a tad bit slower, and try to fish the banklines around your pond. Good luck!!

Just a couple months ago I was preying for rain. The farmers were irrigating out of the pond, it was clearer and lower than I had ever seen it then the rains started. At first I was glad to have a little color but then it got to look like a 75 Ac mud puddle.

Haven't been fishing in 3 weeks in my main pond and its raining a "frog strangler" as I type.

Still glad to have the rain. I will just have to wait to use those jigs I got last week from SO.

find a pond with a drain pipe coming in or going out! even in a little pond fish can and will relate to current.

if no drain pipe, find a wash out on the bank and/or where run off goes into the pond.

any of these places you can find them holed up and whack 'em!

I was fishing my dads farm pond today in NE Florida the water line has come up 4 feet in the last month I caught a hand full of small fish pitching a weight less knockoff senko to the inside grass line where there was dirt a few weeks ago

I'm in west georgia and we too have been hammered by the constant rain.. numbers are down but I've been catching quite a few decent fish on crankbaits
