Havoc Grass Pig Rigging

Featured Replies

I am kinda clueless on these but a buddy gave me a couple.. they look pretty sweet.. If I wanted to do a Weighted EWG or T-rig. any recommendations on hook size, weight, and rod/reel set up.. pretty much .. teach me how to use this thing. I dont ever do swimbaits.

I would use a 4/0 weighted EWG hook anywhere from 1/8-1/4 oz depending on the cover I use this set up in really weedy areas. My other use for them is as a trailer on a swim jig 1/4-1/2 oz. I use a 7' MH fast rod and a 6:1 gear ratio reel, and reel it just fast enough that the tail wiggles.

I just bought some swim jigs and some grass pigs to pair up, glad to hear it was a good combo. Haven't gotten to use them yet.

Haven't had luck with grass pig but the subwoofer and jerk are good havoc baits

Havoc baits period catch fish and almost all make good cheap jig trailers

not to hijack this thread but since a lot of you are mentioning them as swim jig trailers i have a question...how are the tail actions in comparison to the subwoofer? the local dicks near me recently discounted almost all the subwoofers to around 1$ a pack and needless to say i was out of town and they are all gone and who knows when they will get more in. i need to replenish and they just got these in.

These are more aggressive than a subwoofer as these will make the swim jig roll just a little like a crankbait and put off more vibration. I use them both with success though and would use the grass pig when the fish are more active or when they prefer a more aggressive presentation

I've never fished a grass pig but, I've fished cane thumpers which are very similar. More often than not I find myself flipping/pitching/punching them rather than swimming them.

I use a Owner weighted twist lock hook 1/8 oz. , seems to work pretty well.

Yeah I have some cane thumpers too! Havent even opened the pack.. but I like using the fighting frog for those apps.. or should I say..thats what the fish are liking. but I will give that a shot. What weight do you use.. apart from punching

I'll use 1/4oz. up to 1oz. The lake I mainly fish has bullrush/tules and eurasian watermilfoil (pretty much hydrilla) so mainly I'm pitching it with a pegged 1oz. When I'm fishing docks, I'll throw 1/4 to 1/2oz. Try using them where ever you would use a fighting frog, you might be pleasantly surprised. This is the 5" version by the way.

1/4 or 3/8oz football jighead and stroke it along the bottom. They work pretty well on a keel weighted swimbait hook but I like the Sick Fish better for that.
