Hey guys, I went out this morning. I started out throwing the mattlures baby bass and ultimate bluegill swim baits, both to no avail. Then I tied on a 6 inch Huddelston in the green silver/color and on my first cast I caught this scrawny 4 lber. He had the mouth of a 6lber, I would love to catch him with a full belly!

 

So then an ok day turned south. A few casts after the fish shown above, my hudd got snagged. It was an incredibly solid snag, my 50lb power pro couldn't even budge it. I worked for 20 minutes to free it with no luck, even using a homeade plug knocker and putting my rod and reel underwater to try and nudge it loose. As a last ditch effort to avoid swimming, I trolled about 50 yards away from the snag to pull from a different angle. Then I hear a loud "snap". I look down and all the line is gone from my reel, even though I had left the spool spinning freely. I franticly begin searching the water for my line (floating) so I can save my $18 lure. I could not find the line. Incredibly frustrated, I begin packing up my tackle box in preparation to head in for the day, when i notice something is wrong. My plastic boat, incredibly prone to moving in any wind, hasn't moved the whole time I have been sitting, even though I am not anchored and there is a 10 mph wind. I immediatley pull up the trolling motor, and sure enough it has my whole spools worth of power pro wrapped around the prop, connected to the still snagged swim bait. I frantically grab the mainline and pull myself to the snag and drop down the anchor. I decide I am going swimming to get the lure. I take off my shoes and shirt and jump in. At this point I am incredibly nervous, even though I am an very strong swimmer and the water is only 6 ft deep. I follow the line underwater and finally reach the Hudd (all with my eyes closed, the lake is gross). It will not come loose, and it feels like it is hooked on a burlap sack. After a few more tries I get back in the boat and grab my mini leatherman to cut it free. Using the 3 inch blade I was able to cut the burlap bag on my third try and retreived the swim bait!

Kudos to you for the determination! I would have called it a loss. I'm not big on jumping in the water. Glad you got the HUD back.

The crazy **** we get snagged too.  Anything else and you'd have gotten it easily.

Lol i was so worried I was going to do that. I was sure I would either cut the Hudd in half or just cut right into my hand on accident lol. I guess all is well that ends well though.

I'm not sure if i would call myself a swimbaiter just yet, but I am definetley working on it. I like to read the local reports on that thread, but I normally don't post because I always fish the same lake. Now that I can drive I may start fishing different lakes and checking in on that thread. Thanks!
