Had A Rough Day Today!!! Fish Of My Life..

Recommended Posts

Well fishing was fun today as I took a younger church kid out just to kinda bond and get to know him better.. its his grandfathers massive pond/lake..

2nd cast and I hook up on the biggest fish of my life.. I have recently caught a 7.5 pounder and this one was BIGGER by a lot.. well the water was super shallow and clear so I watched this all happen.. I was on a dock at the time that was four foot off the water.. ended up.. the thing went up under the dock and wrapped around a pylon and then coming off... wow.. devastated.. couldnt stop thinking of all the .. "I could have done" things.. and... so I ended up catching some quality fish ... but still upset about the one that got away.. maybe another day.. but seeing a 9.5+ pound bass come right under you and you cant do anything with it.. SUCKS.. stupid spinning tackle.. wish I had my duckett for that one..

Bummer but you know it is in there and unless you were throwing an ultralight, i highly doubt the spinning tackle had anything to do with losing the fish :)

yeah I try and to go and catch her..i have a few ponds where I lost some monster so I save them for when I feel the time is right... plus a lot of them are a pretty far walk in thick thick weeds that I doubt people even know pond exist.. Go get her!!!!... spinning tackle should have anything to do with it though but if you confident in baitcasting gear bring it next time!

They don't get big by being dumb. Unless you have 80lb braid and one of the heaviest casting rods Duckett makes a 9.5lb bass hooked close to cover is going to test any kind of gear to the max.

Just remember, you learn a lot more from losing fish than you do from catching fish.    But I sympathize with the feeling of losing a good one!

That gotta sting a little.

Look at it this way, you'll have more of a reason to bond with the young one.

That happened to me but my fish was atleast 12lbs and I lost her about 15 feet in front of me in Lilly pads! She got wrapped up and I kept pulling and my mono snapped! Ever since that day it has been 30lb braid no matter what I'm throwing or the conditions. I have never had my line snap since then!

If I didn't live in FL and there wasnt a huge gator living in this lake, prob others too, I would hav went in the water to get the fish out the pads!!! This thing was so big that I will never come close to getting a fish like that again in my life!!! I fish that spot about 2 times a week just to see if I can reunite with her again but this time be able to touch her lol

Losing a big fish hurts but it's part of the game. Just keep taking additional attempts at her, sooner or later you will get her.

Yeah the cover she was in didnt get me just what she ran to.. And I could have directed her better going from a 6'6" medium spinning rod to a 7'3mh duckett..

Yeah thinking on what I could have done better.. I just wasnt prepared on my second cast at a place I have been to before and caught okay sized fish but nothing massive.. I just wasnt expecting it.. maybe I will see her again one day. its a huge pond though lol.. learning to always be prepared and use gear I am most conifdent in.. I no that the senko caught her.. so I needed finesse.. but I was using a 20 dollar combo and had a 240 dollar combo sitting on the deck..

Fish like that make me want to just dive off into the water after them.  lol

I guess we've all been there, seeing our potential pb slip away. Don't give up, it'll be twice as sweet when you bring him in one day.

I feel for you. The day I caught my PB, which was a very long time ago, I lost a bigger fish the same day on a spinnerbait. This thing almost yanked the rod from my hands. Before I could react, it leapt in the air, shook her massive head, spinnerbait went one way and she went the other. Fortunately, I caught my PB a little while after.

C'mon man...to bond and get to know him better...?  You wanted to fish his grandfathers beasty massive lake.  You can admit it...there's no shame in that.

Anyway, sucks about the fish.  Losing an average fish is bad enough but losing one that would have been a PB really hurts.

I can actually fish there pretty much anytime.. but he does have a boat for it while I would have to kayak or canoe over there.. which is a difference.. but, it wasnt to get to the lake.. that was actually my 6th time fishing there and 1st with him..
