As promised, I'm back to update this thread.  This last trip hurt the numbers of our "scientific study" as we hit the bass while they were spawning.  While everyone caught fish in the 7-9lb+ range, there was only 1 DD caught on this trip.  Anytime you were hung up close to the bank, you go get un-hung and see TONS of monsters up shallow, but getting them to bite is another story.    So for the new numbers and averages:

 

1020 hours fished producing 11 DD bass - 1 DD Bass for every 92.73 hours fished.

 

As always, I will continue to keep this thread updated with our true statistics.  I still say this is the best fishery for a DD bass anywhere in the world right now.  If you are looking to make a trip down, contact me and I will be more than happy to help you with any or all of the details of your trip!

A 10# bass is ok but I personally have seen bigger swim by me. Again I lost two bigger bass too.

My point is to fish and fish hard. It's not easy but these dd bass are out there.

A 10# bass is more than ok, it's really fine fish.  Unless a fish is landed it is very difficult to determine how big it was.  The water clarity may not be ideal for a visual, even with in a designated species not all of the fish are going to fight the same.  

 

I lost a fish last year, it was before dawn I did see it jump a few times and I knew it was a tarpon, but it was about 50 yds away.  At first I thought the fish was maybe 75# which is quite possible.  After losing it in heavy current the reality set it, I doubt it was near that big.  Did make a nice Bullsheet story.  I was telling people for weeks I had a 75 pounder on, lol.....I knew better.

Man a dd anywhere is a fish of a lifetime! Glad i,can here your guys stories , keeps me fishing for that hawg. When i get older im deff going on fishing trips where i can catch a 10 lb plus . Keep it up guys!

It' very difficult to catch big bed bass on artificial lures and a reason I don't target them. The big girls are very uncomfortable in shallow water during the day time. When they are up to spawn, not eat, it is frustrating!!

What type of lures did you try using?

Was a fishing show on TV um some 10 years or longer ago. Thinking it was jimmy Houston. Caught about three 10 + In a row and said heck lets try for ten over 10+ in a row. And did it. Unless they edited out the small ones. Which I figured.

That's one place I'd love to go!

Jimmy Houston caught I his first DD bass in candlewood lake in ct. He often visits relatives so he can fish too. The stumps in candlewood hold big DD bass.

I seen these bigger bass within a few feet from me at the drop off. The shore is three feet above the water. I can tell pretty close to the size of the fish I'm seeing. I'm saying bigger than 10# maybe a new state record of 12#14oz. Somewhere in that class. I didn't state 14#. But she's way bigger than my 10#er.

 

I'm trying to raise an awareness there are big DD bass in most of our bodies of water there not being caught. I wear polarized glasses 100% of the time and scan the water too.

  Dwight & I were fishing together the whole trip and we both agree with you here.  So we didn't spend a more than an hour on the morning we first found the fish up shallow.   It was easy to see right off that they were not willing to eat anything, so we moved on.  Once we focusing our efforts on fish that had either already spawned or not moved up yet, we got bite.  By this lakes standards, it was tough sledding. 

I will not be rolling the dice again during the spawn and any return trips there I may be fortunate enough to take, will be planned considerably before or well after the fish are thinking about making babies . . . . .
