Glass Vs. Graphite

Featured Replies

Hey guys, Im going to get a rod for my crank baits. Ill be fishing mostly square bills and medium diving crank baits so my question is should I  go with a glass or graphite rod and why?

it's a matter of personal preference. I prefer a graphite MHM rod for squarebills and mid divers. the glass rods have a very slow, moderate action to them that helps keep fish buttoned. they are generally heavier rods and much less sensitive which helps you not to "pull the tirigger" on a fish too fast so. there's a bit of a learning curve /w glass rods and they act differently than your traditional graphite rods.  you would really just have to try it to find out yourself. Either or will work great as long as you use the correct line. A moderate tip is ideal on a graphite rod for cranks.

I like a M graphite for squarebills and mediums and I prefer a glass rod for deeper divers. Pick one and give it a shot. I'd go graphite unless you plan on going deep.

Graphite for your stated purpose. Specifically Pinnacle Perfecta DHC5-701BAMCB or

St. Croix AVC70MM. For deep cranking and bigger lures, glass. Specifically the Lamiglas

SR705R.

get a graphite, just make sure it has a moderate, or moderate-fast tip, and you will be good. and for power, go for M or MH depending on soze of cranks youll be throwing, but more than likley i always go with a MH as it can still throw smaller baits well, but still have the power to control bigger fish!

good luck.

there's a lot of good brands out there, most shimano rods have lifetime warranty and are pretty good rods for there price, powell endurance and max are some excellent cranking sticks, especally the powell max 704CB.

there is also labor day sales going on right now on several websites, TW is 15% off, and several others are also 15-20% off also, just look around!
