So Yall Want To Learn Sam Rayburn

Featured Replies

We had a pretty good weekend out there. Cleaned up in the grass at about 13 foot depth throwing into it a bit shallower, then just dragging senko's through that grass. Anyone else been on Big Sam lately?

I'm taking them.  Have talked to Henry and will meet on the ramp Sat AM for a practice day.  Friends did favors for my late son when I was unavailable.  My turn to return the favor to someone.

Got to hit Rayburn today and found some nice fish. Probably caught 30+ fish. Got on a trap bite early in the AM and went flipping later in the day. Had one of the best days I've had in a while, best f

Well I haven't been on here in a while but have got to get a little lake time in the last couple of weekends. Last weekend I won a small club tourney with a little less than 13 lbs, ten boats fished i

Which is the reason I'm no longer a member of TFF!

I will be there to toss my lures around this weekend.  Hope to see you out there.

Wish I was going to be there, but I won't make it. I ought it was Saturday, but once I realized it's on Sunday I'm out. I'm a pastor at a church, so Sundays are pretty much off limits.

Hey Catt, I was on here quite a bit a few years ago before Jack passed away. Just started lurking again a few weeks ago. Sure miss Jack....I know you guys were pretty tight there the last little while. Hope you're doing well.

Anyone heading up to Big Sam for the holiday weekend? It'll be kind of weird with no Island to party on as Rattlesnake is pretty much completely flooeded still

Anybody doing any good on Big Sam?

Was over there last weekend, caught several on a rage blade, frog and jig/craw trailer.

In about 10-12 fow

Only had time to fish fri and sat morning for a couple hours.

Wanted to do some night fishing, but mowing an cleaning fence lines at the camp wore me out.

It's good an warm out, that's for sure.

Let us know how you do!

And good luck to you

Haven't been out to big Sam in about a week. Me and my brother are going out Saturday morning and just wondering how some other people have been doing.

Anybody been fishing Big Sam?

It is a little warm during the day, lol

Haven't been myself, just like to hear what's going on.

Thanks

Went this morning from 6-1030! They are generating a lot of water and the lake is dropping fast. Started out early fishing offshore and the bite was very slow. Only caught four small largemouth and got on some of the biggest sand bass I've ever seen. Caught all my fish on a 6xd, and yes it is hotttt!

Thanks for the report Red_Ranger

Have to go that way this weekend to mow,

If the weather is right, may go a couple hours in the mornings.

You think since the lakes dropping fast, that has something to die with bit?

It does on the smaller lakes, not sure about the bigger lakes

Thanks for sharing

I can't put my finger on it. I think it has to do with fluctuation of water level. The lake came up really fast and now it is dropping really fast. At first I thought maybe the shad haven't moved out and are keeping the fish in the shallow cover, but I've been marking big balls of shad on my graph but not schoolers. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right areas, it's really starting to get frustrating though! Good luck on the trip Roblo and be sure and give us a report.

With the water dropping, now we are left some ramps that are in really bad shape, at least the one I use at Harvey Creek park.

It is extremely bad, an since the forest service took the park over years ago, not sure if it will get fixed or not.

It's about 2 miles from my camp, convenient as all get out!

I'll be going that way after work this Thursday, will get back on here an leave some kind of report, hopefully a good one, lol

So just out of curiosity what are good strategies and areas for January here. I've never fished here but will be here in.January

January-Febuary are usually the coldest months here in East Texas. On big Sam in January I usually have a lot of luck with a football/structure jig being fished fairly slow in deeper water, I also like fishing a trap to. I try to target creek channel bends or ledges with timber. Went out today from 4 til dark, fished main lake points with flooded hay grass. Didn't slay em but didn't do to bad, caught ten with two being in the three to four pound range. All fish were caught on Texas rigged zoom ol monster and strike king recon worms in June bug and red bug.

Hey Red

Not to bad at all, about how deep was you fishing?

Good Lord willing, I'll leave tomorrow after work, would like to fish Friday morning for a little bit. And then again late evening till dark.

Thanks for the report

I was fishing in 10-15 fow Roblo. Good luck, let us know how you do!

I was able to get on the lake a couple times over the weekend, it was nice an hot, that's for sure.

Caught several small bass, 12-15"

Only fished a couple hours each time, had a lot of chores to do at the camp.

Bluebird skies an very little wind made it tough for me.

I need a nice graph and then force myself to get off the banks, lol

Thanks for the report Roblo. I grew up fishing big Sam and my dad has always been a bank beater so naturally that's how l learned how to fish. Up until roughly 2-3 years ago that's all I did was beat the bank and now that my confidence is strong offshore I have no problems trying to figure them out off the bank. I by no means have deep fishing figured out but I have gained enough confidence to do it. When you start marking fish on your graph and catching the fish you mark it's truly addictive, I love doing it. Like you said, you need a decent graph to get good at it though. I still have enough will power if it's not happening offshore I will ease closer to the bank. Deep cranking has become my habit, I can't hardly put down the 6xd and dd22. Gonna go out Tuesday and Wednesday night and look for a fat girl, I will report back and let yall know how I do.
