Cover water with a shad colored rattle trap until you find them, then slow down with a weightless texas rigged trick worm in that area. Find the grass the fish will be staging on the outside and inside grass edges fattening up chasing shad

Thanks Shaneus!  Should I keep the worm shad color or switch to green pumpkin?  Also will there be any tournaments are anything I should watch out for?  Do not want to get tangled with a tournament when I'm trying to learn the lake.  And thanks again.

I have 4 colors of worms I fish with : watermelon red, red bug, red shad, junebug. 2 lights and 2 darks, I also use a big heavy wire hook that acts as my weight also, sometimes a little lead 1/32 oz if it is windy. with all that said the red shad worm is a senko brand color I only buy the yamamoto's, the rest are zoom trick worms. You can try doing the tails with chartreuse spike it, but I find you get more perch, bluegill bites on it and setting the hook leaves you with half a worm.......

Henry, just a bit of online info for you. The "site" is bassresource.com, and this is the forum where multiple topics are discussed. What your refering to is a thread, or topic, specifically "So you want to learn Rayburn" or "So you want to learn Toledo Bend".

Not doggin ya, just trying to enlighten you.

Have you found the "Best of" thread in the general bass fishing section. If not add it to your reading. There is lots of good information.

Now Back to Rayburn, Feb 1, the tourney what marina are they using, and can you trailer?

Im Hunters  boat captain also, were from the Jasper High team,   and to answer txgator's question. the tournament is going out of the Humphery pavillion  it will be a trailering tournament  they are not doing prelaunch boat checks this time.  The  start and  stop times haven't been posted on the  web site yet I think but will be up  this week  I suspect.  I can't get the link to  work so just copy and paste the address below it will take you to the  homepage.

Also there are some new liability forms that  all  fisherman and boat captains have to complete before the tournament  those are  located  on the home page  via a  link.   as for info   it took 20 lbs to win the Rattle Trap tournament Sunday.

Henry   No we have not been on the lake in a couple of weeks  hopefully will get out Sunday to practice.   The fishing  from  the reports I have heard is best  right now  above the 147 bridge  around the jkacklson hill area.   There  were 2 tournaments this weekend   Bass champs and Rattle trap      it took 23lb to win bass champs and  20lbs to win rattle trap.  But for most of us the fishing has been  a lot tougher than that.  rattle traps and red eye shad are catching fish, but  there are suspended smaller fish in deep water that are taking drop shots too.  Its  hard to find a good pattern with the  variable weather patterns right now.  If the weather settles down and we get  some warming  before   the tournament they could be  going into prespawn and moving shallow, but still several days before the tournament.

and yes  Hunter and his partner will be fishing  and I  will be the boat capt. for them,  Not sure I'll be much help to them though.

Hey guys its hunters dad  yes it was a tough week  weather was  terrible on the water. I fished co angler side of FLW rayovac. Got a bad draw on Thursday rookie  couldn't decide  if  he wanted to fish  deep shallow or in between ended up with both  zeroing  thursday. Friday was canceled  but  full field fished Saturday. I got a much better draw and was able to  bring in 12lb 5oz  to get a check.

Rattle traps and square bill  crankbaits accounted for most of the fish. there were some  jig  fish deep, and I even saw a guy catch  at least on on a drop shot  in front of  the harvey creek boat ramp. Water temp dropped 8 degrees  from Thursday to Saturday but had  climed  from 42-44 back to around 48-51 , but with new system coming in  temps are gonna  plunge again.  Hopefully the  predicted warming trend will occur  this week and  turn the bite on for the High school tournament.

Gator   I'll look for you  this weekend    Good luck to the High school anglers.

Whats happening on Sam Raburn??   Haven't been on the lake since last Sept. I have a 1 day tournament on Feb. 15 on the lower end of the lake out of Umphrey Pavilion. Don't know much about that end of the lake. Any suggestions of where to begin. Lake level, water temp, baits, ect.  I sent a PM to Shaneus but haven't heard from him.   Thanks   BackWater

I've never fished Rayburn, and looking on the topo's I see lots of creek beds and was wondering for all you that have fished this lake regularly, how thick is the vegetation around the creeks and points or is it like the rest of these east texas lakes that have had most of the vegetation killed off?  Was wondering if any of you know about currents on most of the creeks ie inflow or out flow?  I see several beautiful potential spots to start, but what is the timber/stump depth on avarage.  I really dont want to kill myself or my boat so what depth are most of the tops of the timbers?  appreciate the help in advance...

weighed one   at 3.77lb    I gave up on my flat fish on south  end and ran north  to canyons but never got bit.    found out this morning  one of the  teams that stayed on the flat  down south  got bit late and ended up with 13lb.    so  I rolled the dice and got snake eyes again.  story of my life LOL

Thats the way it goes. I knew of 2 spots I wanted to try, had fish on them the week before, but with the "Strong" south wind they would have been unfishable. So we were nowhere near there. Then the wind never really materialized. You take your chances thats all i is. Maybe the one in March.
