Fishing From A Kayak In Maine

Featured Replies

Hi! I found this forum by accident, and boy am I glad I did!! Can't believe the wealth of knowledge and experience here.

I'm retired, Navy vet, had jobs in electronics, linework for a cable co., and nursing. I'm pretty much a self -taught angler, but I've always wanted to fish with others with more experience. None of the men in my life has liked to fish, only my dad! From time to time I hire a guide in the Belgrade area up here and benefit enormously just from one day on the water. I have one son, Brian, who used to pat me on the head and smile when I'd get my gear......I'd pat him on the head when he got his computer.......it was our running joke :)

I also fly fish (learning), write, volunteer at nursing homes, putter with wood and now generally get up when I want to. Am building a solar house I designed ( beats chest ;D ) out in the woods......slowly! I put in the foundation in 2008 but have since hired crews as my income has allowed 'cause of injury. Next spring I'm headed out there to stay in it and finish it as I can. A labor of love for sure.

I fish just about every day during Maine's short season. I take my kayak and go all over the place. But one dream is to spend a week in the south fishing for those Southern bass!! Glad to be here!

Welcome! Impressive resume

Southern bass await your presence! Down here in VA, the fishing is great, but further south, Florida strain beasties are on my bucket list.

Consider coming to next year's BassResource RoadTrip.

Specific details will be posted in the coming months, but

as a general guide we will probably be having the event

around the first of May at one of the Tennessee River

impoundments.  The exact location is yet to be determined.

Welcome to the greatest bass fishing forum on the WWW. There is a awesome bunch of guys here but we need more women who also enjoy our love of bass fishing too. We share information in two directions too. I'm sure you have some knowledge to share too. We learn something new on every fishing trip. It's great to have you here with us. BigBill

BTW, I'm getting ready to build on my land in central by soon. I'm going with a 12volt solar system. I figure I can run on 12volts, a 110v generator if need be as backup and propane for the other stuff like the well pump, cooking stove and fridge too. I been using 12volts for years there. I'm too far off the grid in the wilds to run power. I'm going with a two story one car garage with a loft for sleeping upstairs. The basement is the garage and the first floor is the living area. I can't wait to have indoor plumbing. I own a piece of heaven. I'm a few minutes from town and the white river that's known for 20" browns too.

Welcome Home!

It does feel like home! I often think about BR and all the commentary and knowledge I see here. I'm uplifted by the welcoming and encouraging spirit you all have for others!   I loved reading that thread started by someone who caught his first bass. Roadwarrior, gonna be at that RoadTrip if I can! I love Twinkies.

Bill, wow! Does that building sound terrific! You're one of the most encouraging voices on here and have always impressed me as an optimist, which is a great strength. I know what a joy it is to carve out that little piece of heaven. Hey, what're you doing for well and septic? Curious as my place is off grid too.

Bass fishermen, I think, tend to be dreamers. Also realists and pragmatists! Can't wait to meet as many of you as I can!
