How much wood would a wood chuck chuck?...

Them little buggers are tough! A buddy and I were hired by his neighbor to take care of a woodchuck problem she was having and I skewered one from it's back end to right under it's chin. Dang thing made it probably 30 yards and almost got under the barn they were busy digging up before it dropped. Another neighbor was watching and asked if he could have it, I asked if he skinned them, he said no he eats them and they taste great    Guy was dead serious, he had it field dressed in a couple minutes and looked like he'd done it before and was real excited about some fresh chuck for dinner 

I've heard they taste good actually because they only eat certain grass. Still wouldent eat it myself. They are tough I shot one in the summer with the 30-06 took 3 hits first one hit it center mass and it started to hobble off so I gave it another in the side thing flew up in the air an we thought that was the end of it. By the time we got to him we seen blood all over but no chuck looked in the woods and it was clinging to a tree so he got one more and that one did the trick.

That one I stuck I shot it with te practice broad head that doesn't expand it passed clean threw right between the front shoulders it was a almost straight down shot walking away. He ran about 5 yards and expired in his hole right at the entrance.

Woodchucks are my favorite critter to shoot.  For years I used a 22LR, but when we moved into our new place the distance was too great to shoot those little buggers.  So now I use my M4.  They are like a timex, they take a licken and keep on ticken.  With an M4 and a head shot, they usually don't have time to run. 

 

I got a neighbor who eats them as well.  He claims that they taste like veal.  It makes sense since they eat grass like a cow, but I will pass myself.

55gr noslers @ 4100fps out of the .243 is usually my weapon of choice on them. It was a slow morning never seen any deer thats why I stuck that guy.
