What is a better knot for cranks on copolymer line? Ive read palomar is bad with fleuro, so im assuming that may apply to copoly as well.

ive never had a palomar come lose or break on fluoro or copoly, 

 

only knots i use are improved clinch, and palamor

 

snell knot for punching,

 

and alberto for line to line

Double palomar for life.  

San Diego Jam for all lines except braid. For that it's a Palomar.

Use a high quality snap clip like Berkley Cross Loc size 3 and the Palomar knot.

I've been sicking with a pitzen on everything but braid (palomar) and haven't had a knot issue since.  For cranks, I'm assuming that you're tying to a split ring, so there really isn't a need for any type of looped knot. If not, I'd suggest a quality snap.

I'll have to try some of these out. I gave the san diego jam a whirle and couldnt get it to snug up tight so i didnt have confidence in it.

I just tie on ball bearing quality locking snap swivels but I have learned to wet my line for a tighter knot. I have a hard time retying my knots in the daytime forget tying them in the dark.

I need to look into some good snaps. I recognize their versatility, but have none in my tacklebox. I did use one once, and found it impeded the action of my bait too bad, but i was probably using it for something it shouldn't have been used for.

Are there any snaps where the part that goes through the eye of the lure is round instead of the box type? Do all snaps have swivels?

I tie a Palomar to a duo loc snap.  Failing that, an improved cinch or Uni knot will work fine.

IMHO, any of the knots mentioned in this thread will work just fine if they are tied properly.

Another vote for palomar. I don't fish braid (at least yet) and that's about the only knot I tie (except for improved clinch on small dry flies).

The problem with a Palomar knot tied directly to a larger lure with treble hooks is you over heat the knot clinching it tight with a big enough loop to go over the lure. Crankbaits perform better with snap or split ring.

If tie direct., It should be to a split ring with improved clinch, SD jam, Uni, or whatever that doesn't require a big loop. The key is keeping the attachment light weight with good knot strength. Loop knots like the perfection loop wear the loop and break the loop.

Norman speed clips are good, however difficult to take a lure off at times. The Duo Loc clip is good, not as strong as the Cross-loc.

No all snaps do not have swivels. The Berkley duo lock and Norman speed clips are the most common for crankbaits, I prefer the duo lock. The swivel will ruin the crank's action IMO. Use one without a swivel.

Its called a mickey mouse knot google it. its the best knot for crankbait trust me we use these knots to catch 50 pound snook
