He's not kidding. Or you could really get serious and use metal polish and a Dremel tool with the felt polishing wheel. Then apply a clear coat when done.

EDIT: IMHO, the car wax really shines them up and protects the blades a little longer before you have to clean them again.

Steel wool will restore tarnished blades without scratching them, the key is to use very fine.

Get yourself a can of Brasso in the cleaning section of the supermarket and a soft cloth.A single can should last you for years.

i use a jewelers cloth. It brightens them up and no worry about scratching the surface.

X2^  Any very fine abrasive cleaner will work. The important part is to seal the surface of the blade after polishing. Without some sort of sealant, the blade will quickly tarnish again.

Coke and a cloth to buff with.

Try it once.

Also try tomato ketchup, lemon juice or vinegar.  Anything slightly acidic should do the trick
